INTRODUCTION Nonpharmacological therapies (NPTs) can improve the quality of life (QoL) of people with Alzheimer's disease (AD) and their carers. The objective of this study was to evaluate the best evidence on the effects of NPTs in AD and related disorders (ADRD) by performing a systematic review and meta-analysis of the entire field. METHODS Existing reviews and major electronic databases w...

The use of computer-generated (CG) stimuli in face processing research is proliferating due to the ease with which faces can be generated, standardised and manipulated. However there has been surprisingly little research into whether CG faces are processed in the same way as photographs of real faces. The present study assessed how well CG faces tap face identity expertise by investigating whet...

The human cathepsin G (CG) gene is expressed only in promyelocytes and encodes a neutral serine protease that is packaged in the azurophil (primary) granules of myeloid cells. To define the cis-acting DNA elements that are responsible for promyelocyte-specific "targeting," we injected a 6-kb transgene containing the entire human CG gene, including coding sequences contained in a 2.7-kb region, ...

The ability of the Modification of Renal Disease (MDRD) equation to predict GFR when compared with multiple other prediction equations in healthy subjects without known kidney disease was analyzed. Between May 1995 and December 2001, a total of 117 healthy individuals underwent (125)I-iothalamate or (99m)Tc-diethylenetriamine-pentaacetic acid (DTPA) renal studies as part of a routine kidney don...

Objective- The current study was conducted to evaluate changes in the urinary bladder structure and leukocyte profile as an important index of the systemic inflammation response for two different types of spinal cord injury (SCI) in a rat model. Design- Experimental Study.Animals- Forty adult healthy female Sprague-Dawley rats.<br /...

High-affinity choline uptake mechanisms are among the characteristics of cholinergic neurons such as the ciliary and choroid subpopulations in the ciliary ganglion (Barald and Berg, 1979). We have produced three monoclonal antibodies (Mabs), two of which were made to 8-day embryonic chick ciliary ganglion (CG) neurons (CG-1, CG-4) (Barald, 1982) and one of which was made to cultured mesencephal...

Two multi-phasic models (logistic (LOG) and Michaelis-Menten (MM)) with three sub-curves were used to describe gas production kinetics of corn (CG), barley (BG), wheat (WG) and triticale (TG) grains. In each model sub curve, 1 describes the gas production caused by fermentation of the soluble fraction, gas production caused by fermentation of the non-soluble fraction is described in sub curve 2...

The scientific literature is voluminous with respect to the cloud-to-ground (CG) lightning and electrical characteristics of mesoscale convective systems (MCSs). MacGorman and Morgenstern (1998) define an MCS as a long-lived storm system that amalgamates from a group of smaller storms through interactions with the local environment. One of the more common types of MCS is the squall line, which ...

We present a hybrid quantum mechanics/molecular mechanics/coarse-grained (QM/MM/CG) multiresolution approach for solvated biomolecular systems. The chemically important active-site region is treated at the QM level. The biomolecular environment is described by an atomistic MM force field, and the solvent is modeled with the CG Martini force field using standard or polarizable (pol-CG) water. In...

Given an א1-free abelian group G we characterize the class CG of all torsion abelian groups T satisfying Ext(G, T ) = 0 assuming the special continuum hypothesis CH. Moreover, in Gödel’s constructable universe we prove that this characterizes CG for arbitrary torsion-free abelian G. It follows that there exist some ugly א1-free abelian groups.
