OBJECTIVES To determine the feasibility of a dynamic CT angiography-protocol with regard to simultaneous assessment of renal anatomy and function. METHODS 7 healthy potential kidney donors (58 ± 7 years) underwent a dynamic computed tomography angiography (CTA) using a 128-slice CT-scanner with continuous bi-directional table movement, allowing the coverage of a scan range of 18 cm within 1.7...

OBJECTIVES To compare differential renal perfusion in various body positions in healthy volunteers, to help postulate factors responsible for recurrent unilateral stone formation. METHODS Ten volunteers with normal renal function and no history of urinary disease were evaluated with diuretic renography using mercaptoacetyl-triglycine. Scintigraphy was performed 1 week apart in each of three t...

The purpose of this study is to compare the performance of laparoscopic partial nephrectomy (LPN) with and without clamping of the renal artery and to evaluate the impact of clamping on postoperative renal function. A total of 20 patients underwent LPN, 13 without and 7 with clamping of the renal artery. The 2 groups were compared with respect to complications, blood loss, operative time, mean ...

Background: Urinary tract infection is a common bacterial infection in children and may lead to irreversible renal damage. TC 99-m Dimercaptosuccinic acid renal scintigraphy is the most sensitive method for diagnosing acute pyelonephritis. We designed a study to evaluate the ability of DMSA scan and ultrasonography to detect renal paranchymal lesion. Materials and Methods: 62 children 1 month t...

Sixty patients with transplanted kidneys underwent dynamic renal scintigraphy using Technetium99m DTPA. The Perfusion Index, in particular was found to be valuable in differentiating between the two major renal transplant complications of acute tubular necrosis and acute rejection. In addition, other complications like outflow obstruction, pararenal fluid collections, leakage, etc., were readil...

A case report demonstrating urine extravasation into the scrotum following renal transplantation is presented. An anatomic explanation of the pathway of urine drainage into the scrotum is offered with a brief discussion of extravasation following renal transplantation and its detection by scintigraphy.

We present a patient with left-sided obstructed megaureter secondary to neuropathic bladder. He was referred for technetium-99m dimercaptosuccinic acid ((99m)Tc-DMSA) renal cortical scintigraphy to evaluate renal cortical function. Images obtained 4 hr after injection showed significant activity in the dilated left ureter. When the ureter is visualized on DMSA scan, obstructive megaureter shoul...

In the post-operative course, renal function did not improve and diuresis remained between 700 ml and 1.5 l/day. Doppler ultrasound and renal scintigraphy showed a good arterial flow with no

A 22-year-old female patient with severe hypertension underwent both Technetium-99m diethylenetriaminepentaacetate and Technetium-99m mercaptoacetyltriglycine basal and captopril renal scintigraphy. While no significant change was seen with Tc-99m DTPA, there was left sided parenchymal retention of captopril Tc-99m MAG3 suggesting renal artery stenosis which was confirmed by angiography.
