Restoring defocused image is a challenging problem partly because the blur level of the image is space-variant for scenes with non-uniform depth. The most noticeable artifact of debluring is the ringing around object boundary. Counterintuitively, we find that inaccurate depth estimate at object edges is the major cause of the ringing artifact. We mathematically analyze the relationship between ...

The effectiveness of manure incorporation in reducing the numbers of adult lesser mealworms emerging from caged-layer poultry manure applied to agricultural fields was examined in summer 2002 and 2004. Incorporation treatments included control (no incorporation), disk (7-cm depth), harrow (15-cm depth), chisel plow (30-cm depth), and moldboard plow (33-cm depth) on silt loam soils in New York s...

In this paper, we propose a new class of hierarchical depth test which saves memory bandwidth in 3D graphics rendering engine by reducing the number of pixels being passed to the per-pixel operation pipeline. This new filtering, Depth Filter, can be implemented by adding a simple hardware in front of the perpixel operation pipeline. m e Depth Filter is a filtering block which decides whether a ...

In this paper we describe an improvement to the popular IDA* search algorithm that emphasizes a different spacefor-time trade-off than previously suggested. In particular, our algorithm, called Iterative-Expansion A* (IEA*), focuses on reducing redundant node expansions within individual depth-first search (DFS) iterations of IDA* by employing a relatively small amount of available memory— boun...

Virtual view synthesis from an array of cameras has been an essential element of three-dimensional video broadcasting/conferencing. In this paper, we propose a scheme based on a hybrid camera array consisting of four regular video cameras and one time-of-flight depth camera. During rendering, we use the depth image from the depth camera as initialization, and compute a view-dependent scene geom...

For the purpose of reducing the complexity of depth intra coding, a fast intra prediction mode decision algorithm is proposed. First, the fast decision of depth modeling modes (DMMs) is obtained by using Laplace Operator detection method. Second by using the correlation between the wedgelet pattern and texture features, only the wedgelet patterns, which are related to the intra angle mode, is t...

Absorption spectra of visual pigments are adaptively tuned to optimize informational capacity in most visual systems. Our recent investigation of the eyes of the jumping spider reveals an apparent exception: the absorption characteristics of a visual pigment cause defocusing of the image, reducing visual acuity generally in a part of the retina. However, the amount of defocus can theoretically ...

Local scouring around bridge piers is a natural phenomenon caused by the erosive process of flowing stream on alluvial beds. The 3D flow field around bridge piers interacting with the bed materials increases complexity of local scour process. The local scour depth develops in accelerated flows and if it is not predicted correctly, the bottom level of local scour hole will exceed the original le...

irrigation scheduling means applying the right amount of water at the right time. in this research, thecurrent irrigation scheduling implemented in the mirza-kuchak-khan sugarcane agro-industry farmslocated in ahwaz was compared with the actual sugarcane crop water requirement using swapmodel. due to lack of field measured data, the swap model was calibrated and evaluated usinglandsat 7 etm+ im...

A catadioptric stereo system has been developed for depth perception. The system uses two sets of planar mirrors to create two virtual cameras. A design procedure is presented with the aim of building a compact assembly. This has resulted in an inexpensive and compact system that achieves a depth resolution of 5.8 cm at a working distance of 2 m.
