In order to acquire radiation-tolerant characteristics in integrated circuits, a dummy gate-assisted n-type metal oxide semiconductor field effect transistor (DGA n-MOSFET) layout was adopted. The DGA n-MOSFET has a different channel shape compared with the standard n-MOSFET. The standard n-MOSFET has a rectangular channel shape, whereas the DGA n-MOSFET has an extended rectangular shape at the...

The electrokinetic flow resistance (electroviscous effect) is predicted for steady state, pressure-driven liquid flow at low Reynolds number in a microfluidic contraction of rectangular cross-section. Calculations of the three dimensional flow are performed in parallel using a finite volume numerical method. The channel walls are assumed to carry a uniform charge density and the liquid is taken...

In this paper we present a simple method for efficient modeling of the tunneling effect in a non-homogeneous epsilon-near-zero (ENZ) waveguide, using an equivalent circuit approach. ENZ waveguide consists of rectangular waveguides filled with two-layered dielectric, E-step, and a narrow channel. It was shown that the E-step in a non-homogenous structure can be modeled rather simply using a shun...

In this paper, we present a new non-linear dispersive model for open channel and river flows. These equations are the second-order shallow water approximation of section-averaged (three-dimensional) incompressible irrotational Euler system. This asymptotic generalises well-known one-dimensional Serre–Green–Naghdi (SGN) rectangular section on uneven bottom to arbitrary channel/river section.

Understanding the flow fields at the micro-scale is a key to develop methods of successfully mixing fluids for micro-scale applications. This paper investigates flow characteristics and mixing of three different geometries in micro-channel. A Circular groove micro mixer has been designed and simulated. One such channel is shown in Figure1. The geometry of the channels taken was rectangular with...

Inertial microfluidics is a promising tool for many lab-on-a-chip applications. Particles in channel flows with Reynolds numbers above one undergo cross-streamline migration to a discrete set of equilibrium positions in square and rectangular channel cross sections. This effect has been used extensively for particle sorting and the analysis of particle properties. Using the lattice Boltzmann me...

We model a pair of hydrodynamically interacting particles confined in a channel with thin rectangular cross section. We find that the particles have a finite region of attraction, which arises from the screening of dipolar hydrodynamic interactions by the side walls. Outside this region, the two particles break apart and scatter; inside, they oscillate together as an effectively free quasiparti...

The average bed and sidewall shear stresses in smooth rectangular open-channel flows are determined after solving the continuity and momentum equations. The analysis shows that the shear stresses are function of three components: (1) gravitational; (2) secondary flows; and (3) interfacial shear stress. An analytical solution in terms of series expansion is obtained for the case of constant eddy...
