Spin orbit coupling plays a non-perturbation effect in many recently developed novel fields including topological insulators and spin-orbit assistant Mott insulators. In this paper, strongly temperature-dependent spin orbit coupling, revealed by weak anti-localization, is observed at low temperature in 5d strongly correlated compound, SrIrO3. As the temperature rising, increase rate of Rashba c...

We study the Josephson effect between a conventional s-wave superconductor and a non-centrosymmetric superconductor with Rashba spin-orbit coupling. Rashba spin-orbit coupling affects the Josephson pair tunneling in a characteristic way. The Josephson coupling can be decomposed into two parts, a ‘spin-singlet-like’ and a ‘spin-triplet-like’ component. The latter component can lead to shift of t...

We report the experimental observation of the spin-Hall effect in a two-dimensional (2D) hole system with Rashba spin-orbit coupling. The 2D hole layer is a part of a p-n junction light-emitting diode with a specially designed vertical and planar geometry which allows an angle-resolved polarization detection at opposite edges of the 2D hole system. In equilibrium the angular momenta of the Rash...

Persistent current in a correlated quantum ring threaded by an Aharonov-Bohm flux is studied in the presence of electron-phonon interactions and Rashba spin-orbit coupling. The quantum ring is modeled by the Holstein-Hubbard-Rashba Hamiltonian and the energy is calculated by performing the conventional Lang-Firsov transformation followed by the diagonalization of the effective Hamiltonian withi...

Colloidal nanocrystals (NCs) are of considerable interest due to their size-dependent optical and electronic properties, which allow their implementation in photovoltaic cells, light-emitting diodes, photo-detectors and more. Along with the development of the synthesis procedures, numerous investigations have explored the optical and electronic properties of different NCs, involving the study o...

We compute the magnetocrystalline anisotropy energy within two-dimensional Rashba models. For a ferromagnetic free-electron Rashba model, the magnetic anisotropy is exactly zero regardless of the strength of the Rashba coupling, unless only the lowest band is occupied. For this latter case, the model predicts in-plane anisotropy. For a more realistic Rashba model with finite band width, the mag...

Spin-split heavy-hole gases in strained germaniumquantumwells were characterized by polarisationresolved terahertz time-domain spectroscopy. Effectivemasses, carrier densities, g-factors, transport lifetimes, mobilities andRashba spin-splitting energies were evaluated, giving quantitative insights into the influence of strain. The Rashba coefficient was found to lower for samples with higher bia...

The generation of spin-polarized electrons at room temperature is an essential step in developing semiconductor spintronic applications. To this end, we studied the electronic states of a Ge(111) surface, covered with a lead monolayer at a fractional coverage of 4 / 3, by angleresolved photoelectron spectroscopy (ARPES), spin-resolved ARPES and fi rst-principles electronic structure calculation...

We study the electronic band structure of monolayer graphene when Rashba spin-orbit coupling is present. We show that if the Rashba spin-orbit coupling is stronger than the intrinsic spin-orbit coupling, the low-energy bands undergo trigonal-warping deformation and that for energies smaller than the Lifshitz energy, the Fermi circle breaks up into separate parts. The effect is very similar to w...
