Cerebrospinal fluid hydrodynamics were investigated with a constant pressure infusion method in patients with superior sagittal sinus thrombosis. Ten patients were studied with serial examinations up to 15 years after the onset of the disease. A total of 70 CSF hydrodynamic examinations were performed. A clear increase in intracranial pressure due to raised pressure in the major dural sinus was...

Divergence paralysis is characterized by acquired horizontal homonymous diplopia when viewing distant objects but without limitation of ocular movements (Bielschowsky, I935). Although raised intracranial pressure is a significant aetiological factor in the production of divergence paralysis (Bender and Savitsky, I940; Chamlin and Davidoff, I950, 1951), there has been much diversity of opinion a...

Reye's syndrome continues to be associated with a high mortality. Out of 12 cases treated on our intensive care unit over a four year period, seven died, one suffered minimal cerebral damage, and four were normal. Rapid progression through coma stages and high peak ammonia concentrations worsened prognosis. Reye's syndrome was suspected in only 50% of cases at the referring hospital and resulte...

The association of intracranial hypertension and arteriovenous malformations is described in two patients. Both patients had the typical clinical features of pseudotumour cerebri and were found to have intracranial arteriovenous malformations on arteriography. The mechanism of raised intracranial pressure in patients with arteriovenous malformations is discussed.
