BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Iodine deficiency and hypothyroxinemia have a negative effect on the development of the central nervous system during fetal and early postnatal life. MR spectroscopy is a sensitive technique for detecting the changes of brain metabolites in various neurodevelopmental disorders. By using MR spectroscopy, we aimed to show the decrease in N-acetylaspartate (NAA) levels in ne...

INTRODUCTION Recombinant human thyroid-stimulating hormone(rhTSH) increases radioactive iodine uptake(RAIU) in selected populations, while lithium is used as an adjunct to radioactive iodine (RAI) therapy in Graves' disease with low RAIU. In this report, both drugs used in combination, overcame low iodine-131 uptake in a Graves' patient. CLINICAL CASE A 39-year old female with Graves' disease...

SUMMARY In 28 school children with primary hypothyroidism due to iodine deficiency, 100 µg levothyroxine (L-T4} was administered for nine weeks and resulted in normalization of serum T4, T3, and TSH. Five months after withdrawal of L-T 4 , thyroid function was normal in the majority of subjects. Serum T4 was 8.6±2.3 µg/dl ; T3, 156±2.3 ng/dl; and TSH, 6.9± 12.7 µU/ml. Only one subjects showed ...

Aim Functional information for appropriate therapy monitoring of advanced targeted therapies is essential, but standard follow up (FU) examinations with computed tomography (CT) still focus on traditional size measurements. Iodine quantification with dual energy CT (DECT) enables additional quantitative assessment of contrast media uptake. Our purpose was to investigate patterns of contrast med...

Introduction Increasing numbers of patients are receiving treatment with the tranquillizing drugs, and patients referred to hospital with suspected thyrotoxicosis are often taking such drugs. It is important to know what effects these drugs have on tests of thyroid function if diagnostic confusion is to be avoided. Diazepam is a commonly prescribed centrallyacting tranquillizer. Published work ...

INTRODUCTION In a minority of the cases, resection of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is potentially curative but local recurrence is common. Adjuvant intra-arterial radio-conjugate therapy could potentially reduce the rate of local recurrence and increase disease-free and overall survival. However, in the majority of cases, treatment of HCC is largely palliative. A wide range of palliative trea...
