Cystic adventitial disease consists of a collection of clear gelatinous material within an aberrant synovial-type cyst located in the subadventitial plane of the wall of a major artery. Recurrent minor trauma is presumed to potentiate mucin production and enlargement of the cyst with resultant arterial occlusion and symptoms of ischemia. It occurs most commonly in the popliteal artery in young ...

Arteriovenous fistulas (AVF) in the lower limbs are rare disease entities usually caused by penetrating injuries, sporadically developing spontaneously. We present the case of a 74-year-old man suffering from a peripheral arterial disease, in whom a fistula between the popliteal vein and the deep femoral artery branches was disclosed during angiography. The patient denied any trauma in the past...

Here, we present a case report of a young male who had been travelling in Thailand. The patient sustained a relatively minor trauma to the soft tissue under his left third metatarsal head on a piece of coral reef. He subsequently developed an infected ulcer, which did not heal despite appropriate antibiotic therapy and surgical debridement. Unfortunately, the patient required amputation of the ...

We report a patient with calf pain induced by sport and exercise, initially thought to represent compartment syndrome, in whom MRI and duplex ultrasound ultimately revealed cystic adventitial disease of the popliteal artery. Surgical de-roofing of the popliteal artery resulted in complete resolution of symptoms with return to sporting activities.

Popliteal artery pseudoaneurysm is a rare injury occurring in total knee replacement surgeries. The symptoms are usually pain and swelling on the affected side which prompts immediate investigations. Surgical endovascular interventions both available options for intervention with covered stents being preferred choice. Severe injury to the knee and the surrounding area is frequently associated with injury to ligaments of the knee joint and structures in the popliteal fossa. This case involved a popliteal artery occlusion, severe bone loss of distal femur, loss of collateral ligaments, and extensor mechanism destruction of the knee. Initially, prompt recognition and correction of associated popliteal artery in...

OBJECTIVE To analyze and describe the distance from the popliteal artery to three specific areas of the proximal region of the tibia, with the knee extended, by means of magnetic resonance. METHODS Images of 100 knees of patients who underwent magnetic resonance examinations were analyzed. The location of the popliteal artery was measured in three different areas of the posterior proximal reg...

We herein report a serious vascular complication of diagnostic cardiac catheterization due to an embolization of an Angio-Seal closure device causing acute lower limb ischemia. The Angio-Seal was deployed via the right femoral artery following the catheterization which embolized several hours later to the right popliteal artery. Fogarty embolectomy restored perfusion to the right lower limb; ho...
