Analysis of differentially expressed genes has been facilitated by introduction of two related techniques: differential display (3,4) and RNA arbitrarily primed polymerase chain reaction (RAP-PCR) (10). These powerful techniques have been used to identify developmentally, environmentally and hormonally regulated genes in animals and plants (5,7–9). In each method, two or more RNAs are used as t...

Flatfish tissue samples exhibiting X-cell pseudotumors were tested with a number of ribosomal DNA (rDNA) general primers in polymerase chain reactions (PCRs). Microsporidian primers resulted in the amplification of an rDNA fragment and molecular phylogenetic analysis indicated that although the organism did not relate closely with any current microsporidian genera, it was most similar to Nucleo...

INTRODUCTION Incubation of a blunt-end ligation reaction in the presence of an excess amount of an appropriate restriction enzyme can dramatically increase the yield of recombinant plasmids. The role of the restriction enzyme is to cleave circular and linear concatemers at restriction sites that are re-formed when linear, blunt-ended plasmid molecules ligate to themselves. In almost all cases, ...

Aim: The present study was undertaken with the objectives to characterize, identify DNA polymorphism in cluster of differentiation 14 (CD14) gene in Karan Fries (KF) cattle and to analyze association between genetic variants with incidence of clinical mastitis in National Dairy Research Institute (NDRI) herd, Karnal. Materials and Methods: Genomic DNA was extracted using blood of randomly selec...

The COVID-19 pandemic has brought an unprecedented crisis to the global health sector. When discharging patients in accordance with throat or nasal swab protocols using RT-PCR, potential risk of reintroducing infection source humans and environment must be resolved. Here, 14 including 10 subjects were recruited; exhaled breath condensate (EBC), air samples surface swabs collected analyzed for S...

Methods.More than 500 samples were tested by using polymerase chain reaction (PCR) amplification and short tandem repeat (STR) typing. Theextent towhich the remainswere fragmentedandaffectedby taphonomic factors complicated the identification project. Anthropologists reviewed 19,000 samples, and detected inconsistencies in 69, which were further split into 239 new cases and re-sampled by DNA sp...

A system capable of performing both DNA-templated chemical reactions and detection of bond formations is reported. Photocleavable DNA templates direct reactions. Products from bond-forming events re-ligate original templates, amplifiable by PCR, therefore distinguishing bond formation from background. This system provides a novel approach for discovering potential new chemical reactions.

The global re-emergence of syphilis is an exigent public health issue requiring both clinicians and public health practitioners to become familiar with the myriad manifestations of this great imitator. This report describes a case of an originally undiagnosed chronic oral syphilitic chancre, subsequently confirmed by both PCR and immunohistochemistry.

DNA amplification fingerprinting (DAF) (1) gives about 40–60 bands per polyacrylamide gel lane, which makes the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) pattern rather complex for band isolation from a gel. The presence of minor amplified bands having only a few base pairs difference from major bands interferes with the product cloning because of co-isolation (3). This fact becomes obvious if a multiply...

We report below an in vivo antimalarial efficacy study conducted in 2002 in Bundi Bugyo, a district of western Uganda housing a large displaced population. We tested sulfadoxine-pyrimethamine (SP), amodiaquine (AQ) and the combination chloroquine plus SP (CQ + SP). A total of 268 children with uncomplicated Plasmodium falciparum malaria were followed-up for 28 days according to WHO recommendati...
