The objective of this study was to describe the first report involving a case of equine acute myonecrosis caused by C. novyi type A with an emphasis on clinical signs, the pathological and bacteriological analysis, and molecular identification of the microorganisms as the key of the definitive diagnosis.

Ten cows in a suckler herd totalling 60 sickened after grazing parkland which was heavily covered with acorns. Two died. The main clinical signs were dullness, anorexia and constipation. The main pathological findings were severe nephrosis and some intestinal ulceration. After removal to an acorn-free pasture, the remaining eight animals made a full recovery.

A patient with diffuse Lewy body disease presented with supranuclear vertical and horizontal ophthalmoplegia, dementia, axial rigidity and falls, bradykinesia and pyramidal signs. This broadens the clinical presentation of this pathological diagnosis and re-emphasises the heterogeneity of patients diagnosed clinically as progressive supranuclear palsy (Steele-Richardson-Olszewski syndrome).

Field outbreaks of Kalanchoe lanceolata poisoning in cattle on a commercial farm in Zimbabwe are reported. The clinical signs and pathological lesions observed in field cases resembled those reproduced in an experimental cow and were consistent with acute cardiac glycoside poisoning.

Peripheral, cervical and cortical somatosensory evoked potentials after median or ulnar nerve stimulation were recorded in 21 patients with cervical spondylosis with radiculopathy or myelopathy. The test was normal when pain and paraesthesias were the only symptoms, while pathological in radiculopathy with objective neurological signs. The results varied in patients with cervical myelopathy.

The isolation of a strain of Campylobacter hyointestinalis from a piglet is described. The animal originated from a farm where another animal showed signs of intestinal adenomatosis. The animal from which the isolation was made had diarrhoea, and an enteropathogenic Escherichia coli was also isolated. No pathological changes indicative of intestinal adenomatosis were detected in this animal.
