A 74-year-old immunocompetent man admitted for severe retro-orbital headache was diagnosed with isolated sphenoiditis. At the time of scheduled surgery, the patient was mildly obtunded, and a head CT revealed a temporal lobe abscess. The patient underwent a left temporal craniectomy and a bilateral endoscopic sphenoid sinusotomy, which revealed gross fungal debris. The patient made a full recov...
Cavernous sinus thrombosis (CST) represents a rare but devastating disease process that may be associated with significant long-term patient morbidity or mortality. Rapid diagnosis and aggressive medical and surgical management are imperative for patients with CST. We present the case of a 24-year-old pregnant woman with intraorbital abscess and CST secondary to Streptococcus milleri. Surgical ...
Rhino-orbital-cerebral mucormycosis is an invasive disease caused by fungi. Diabetes mellitus and solid organ transplantation are known risk factors, while it increasingly recognized in patients with COVID-19 although the exact causal relationship unknown. Early diagnosis treatment liposomal amphotericin B surgical debridement carries a better outcome these patients. We present case of extensiv...
We report a very rare case of odontogenic orbital cellulitis causing blindness by severe tension orbit. A 41-yr old male patient had visited the hospital due to severe periorbital swelling and nasal stuffiness while he was treated for a periodontal abscess. He was diagnosed with odontogenic sinusitis and orbital cellulitis, and treated with antibiotics. The symptoms were aggravated and emergenc...

Other tumors include vascular tumors (e.g. hemangiomas, lymphangioma), lacrimal gland tumors (e.g. dacryoadenitis, benign mixed tumor, sarcoidosis and adenoid cystic carcinoma), and growths that extend from the sinuses into the orbit (e.g. squamous carcinoma, mucocele). Metastatic cancer can also form an orbital tumor. Lastly, an orbit tumor can also be caused by inflammation (e.g. pseudotumor,...
Orbital cellulitis is an emergency. Confusion still exists between the diagnosis of this serious condition and that of preseptal cellulitis. Delay in treatment may cause blindness and progression to life-threatening sequelae such as brain abscess, meningitis or cavernous sinus thrombosis. We report a case in which, despite late referral, emergency surgical intervention was sight saving.
Neglect of odontogenic infections can have serious consequences. If they spread through fascial planes and intracranially they can cause an abscess, orbital cellulitis, and eventually cavernous sinus thrombosis. The authors report a case of rapid progressive bilateral orbital cellulitis and cavernous sinus thrombosis that originated from dental caries. Septic cavernous sinus thrombosis is a med...
