Current optical interferometers are affected by unknown turbulent phases on each telescope. In the field of radio interferometry, the self-calibration technique is a powerful tool to process interferometric data with missing phase information. This paper intends to revisit the application of self-calibration to optical long-baseline interferometry (OLBI). We cast rigorously the OLBI data proces...

in this paper, we propose an optical millimetre wave radio-over-fibre (mm-wave rof) system that uses a dual drive mach zehnder modulator (dd-mzm), which is biased at the maximum transmission biasing point, to generate an optical double sideband-suppressed carrier. the input to the dd-mzm are binary phase shift keying (bpsk), quadrature phase shift keying (qpsk), 8-phase shift keying (8-psk) and...

Chirped cladding is proposed as a novel tailoring tool to simultaneously attain wider transmission window and reduced temporal dispersion in an all-solid Bragg-like microstructured optical fiber as compared to its perfectly periodic cladding counterpart. This design route for photonic bandgap microstructured fibers could be exploited as an additional degree of freedom for bandgap engineering. A...

We report a new algorithm, called the self-adjusting algorithm, to construct an aperiodic optical superlattice in which multiple nonlinear optical parametric processes can be realized simultaneously with high conversion efficiency. The numerical simulations show that a self-adjusting algorithm has obvious advantages that are due to its own physical process and feedback function. Especially in c...

DNA-driven self-assembly enables precise positioning of the colloidal nanoparticles owing to specific Watson–Crick interactions. Another important feature this method is its reversibility by controlling temperature medium. In work, we study potential another mechanism control binding/unbinding process DNA-functionalized gold nanoparticles. We employ laser radiation that can be absorbed heat the...

To enhance lasers’ power and improve their performance, a model wasapplied for the waveguide design of 400 nm InGaN/InGaN semiconductor laser, whichis much easier to implement. The conventional and new laser structures weretheoretically investigated using simulation software PICS3D, which self-consistentlycombines 3D simulation of carrier transport, self-heating, and opt...

We demonstrate, theoretically and experimentally, self-trapping of optical beams in nanoparticle suspensions by virtue of thermophoresis. We use light to control the local concentration of nanoparticles, and increase their density at the center of the optical beam, thereby increasing the effective refractive index in the beam vicinity, causing the beam to self-trap.
