We propose a procedure to determine the effective nuclear shell-model Hamiltonian in a truncated space from a self-consistent mean-field model, e.g., the Skyrme model. The parameters of pairing plus quadrupole-quadrupole interaction with monopole force are obtained so that the potential energy surface of the Skyrme HartreeFock + BCS calculation is reproduced. We test our method for N = Z nuclei...
Charge radii of all magnesium isotopes in the sd shell have been measured, revealing evolution of the nuclear shape throughout two prominent regions of assumed deformation centered on (24)Mg and (32)Mg. A striking correspondence is found between the nuclear charge radius and the neutron shell structure. The importance of cluster configurations towards N=8 and collectivity near N=20 is discussed...
The knowledge of nuclear reaction rates is important for studying energy production and nucleosynthesis, especially in reactions including nuclei far from stability line, which are not accessible experimentally so far and thus it is necessary to be able to predict reaction cross sections in low excitation energies. Nuclear level density is one of the important key quantities in many nuclear phy...
Equilibration times for nuclear matter configurations – modelling intermediate and high energy nucleus-nucleus collisions – are evaluated within the semiclassical off-shell transport approach developed recently. The transport equations are solved for a finite box in coordinate space employing periodic boundary conditions. The off-shell transport model is shown to give proper off-shell equilibri...
We present results from recent time-of-flight nuclear mass measurements at the National Superconducting Cyclotron Laboratory at Michigan State University. We report the first mass measurements of ^{48}Ar and ^{49}Ar and find atomic mass excesses of -22.28(31) MeV and -17.8(1.1) MeV, respectively. These masses provide strong evidence for the closed shell nature of neutron number N=28 in argon,...
2014 A model interaction is used which is determined by a given nuclear matter saturation curve. This interaction is used in a Hartree-Fock calculation of 40Ca to study the density, the single particle energies and the shell-model potential for various compressibility coefficients derived from the nuclear matter saturation curves. The cell nucleus houses the chromosomes, which are linked to a soft shell of lamin filaments. Experiments indicate that correlated chromosome dynamics and nuclear shape fluctuations arise from motor activity. To identify physical mechanisms, we develop model an active, crosslinked Rouse chain bound polymeric shell. System-sized motions occur but require both activity {\it and} crosslinks. Contr...
We use quantum Monte Carlo methods in the framework of the interacting nuclear shell model to calculate the statistical properties of nuclei at finite temperature and/or excitation energies. With this approach we can carry out realistic calculations in much larger configuration spaces than are possible by conventional methods. A major application of the methods has been the microscopic calculat...
We discuss two conditions needed for correct computation of 2νββ nuclear matrix-elements within the realistic shell-model framework. An algorithm in which intermediate states are treated based on Whitehead’s moment method is inspected, by taking examples of the double GT+ transitions 36Ar → 36S, 54Fe → 54Cr and 58Ni → 58Fe. This algorithm yields rapid convergence on the 2νββ matrix-elements, ev...
