In treating the subject of musical language, a Persian musician would be intrinsically drawn to the structural similarities between the Persian music and language. Indeed Persian music and language are extremely related in their metrics, intonations and structural phrases (syntax). Although we will draw upon this relationship, our aim in this article is to present “music as a language,” c...

Automatic music composition is seen as a challenging problem by diierent researchers and there are several generative approaches. However, music experts often express reservations against music autonomously composed by computers: Deterministic systems mostly compose music that sounds rather boring whereas systems based on statistic methods produce music which can be uncontrollably ugly. An inte...
The organization of music is a subject that has fascinated classification researchers and librarians alike for over a hundred years. This paper identifies five key methodological approaches undertaken by commentators on music knowledge organization, which demonstrate different interdependent relationships between musicology and classification. Five significant themes form the main body of this ...
An OMR system objective is to transcribe an image of a music score into a machine readable format. A music grammar can be used in order to model the structural knowledge of music scores. Music scores can have a high density of symbols and the different preprocessing step can lead to wrongly segmented components. However, we don’t want to tell the grammar how a music symbol should be segmented. ...
In this paper, we discuss unique challenges of visualizing musical data, address limitations of existing music interfaces and data structures, and propose some approaches to music visualization based on the data model developed by Variations2 digital music library project.
Repeating sounds and patterns are widely exploited throughout music. However, although analysis and music information retrieval applications are often concerned with processing speed and music description, they typically discard the benefits of sound redundancy cancellation. We propose a perceptually grounded model for describing music as a sequence of labeled sound segments, for reducing data ...

The aim of our project is to build a model for multi-instrument music transcription. Automatic music transcription is the process of converting an audio wave file into some form of music notes representations. We propose a two-step process for an automatic multiinstrument music transcription system including timbre classification and source separation using probabilistic latent component analysis.
The Internet enables us to freely access music as recorded sound and even music scores. For the visually impaired, music scores must be transcribed from computer-based musical formats to Braille music notation. This paper proposes a transcription system from the MusicXML format to Braille music notation using a structural model of Braille music notation. The resultant Braille scores inspected b...
