The clinical phenomenon of metastatic meningioma is not well described in the literature owing to the relative rarity of its incidence. We report the case of a 78 year old male with a past medical history notable for successfully resected. WHO grade I meningioma in June of 2006 who, upon presentation for left thigh pain from a traumatic fall eight years later, was found to have incidental imagi...

Background: Meningiomas are common benign tumors of the brain. Meningioma patients have optimal functional recovery after surgical removal of their tumors. Some patients experience recurrence months or years after surgical resection. In this study, we try to determine the prevalence of recurrent meningioma and the correlation between recurrence and certain factors. Methods: This retrospective ...

A 53-year old man presented with a malignant meningioma which was incompletely removed. The tumour subsequently metastasized through the cerebrospinal pathways causing clinical signs through invasion of the cranial nerve roots. Microscopically, the metastatic deposits displayed a papillary pattern and increased anaplastic cytological features.

Tumor-to-tumor metastasis is a well-recognized phenomenon. Meningioma is the most common intracranial host tumor, with the breast and lung being the most common primary sites. We report herein two such cases of metastasis from pulmonary adenocarcinoma and malignant melanoma (MM) of vulva, respectively. Case 1: a 69-year-old female smoker who had a history of right upper lobectomy of lung for ad...

OBJECTIVES Meningiomas are slow-growing intracranial/intraspinal tumors, with a wide range of histopathologic variants. The more aggressive atypical and malignant types can disseminate via the venous system, lymphatic, system, or cerebrospinal fluid, with the lung and pleura being the most common sites of extracranial metastases. A case of metastatic meningioma with high expression of CD90 was ...

The high-mobility group nucleosome-binding protein-5 (HMGN5) is frequently overexpressed in various malignant cancers. However, the potential correlation between HMGN5 and prognosis in patients with meningiomas remains unknown. In the present study, we explored the expression of HMGN5 in meningiomas with immunohistochemistry and correlated the results to the patient outcome. Potential effects o...

The incidence of primary intracranial tumors in Manitoba, Canada was reviewed. From 1980 through 1985, 657 tumors were diagnosed. The crude incidence rates were 10.2/100,000 for males and 10.8/100,000 for females. The three most common tumors were: astrocytoma 281 (43%), meningioma 145 (22%), and pituitary adenoma 111 (17%). Average annual incidence rates for all tumors showed a bimodal distrib...

Papillary meningioma is a rare subtype of malignant meningiomas, which is classified by the World Health Organization as Grade III. Because of lack of large sample size case studies, many of the specific characteristics of papillary meningioma are unclear. This study investigated by retrospective analysis the clinical, radiological and histopathological findings of 17 papillary meningioma patie...

High levels of fatty acid synthase (FAS) expression have been reported in hormone receptor-positive tumors, including prostate, breast, and ovarian cancers, and its inhibition reduces tumor growth in vitro and in vivo. Similar to other hormone receptor-positive tumor types, meningiomas are progesterone receptor- and estrogen receptor-immunoreactive brain tumors. To define the role of FAS in hum...

Background: Purpose of this study was to evaluate various parameters of meningioma after surgical treatment and analyze predictive factors for recurrence. Methods: During 1992-2007, 353 patients were operated for intracranial meningioma in our department. They were followed since, and related data were combined with parameters such as tumor histology (WHO system), tumor location and the extent ...
