Matching pursuit (MP) is an adaptive signal decomposition technique and can be applied to process Lamb waves, such as denoising, wave parameter estimation, and feature extraction, for health monitoring applications. This paper explored matching pursuit decomposition using Gaussian and chirplet dictionaries to decompose/approximate Lamb waves and extract wave parameters. While Gaussian dictionar...

The survival probability, SN(t), of a diffusing prey (‘lamb’) in the proximity of N diffusing predators (a ‘pride of lions’) in one dimension is investigated. When the lions are all to one side of the lamb, the survival probability decays as a non-universal power law, SN(t) ∝ t−βN , with the decay exponent βN proportional to ln N . The crossover behaviour as a function of the relative diffusivi...

Bacteriophage lambda adsorbs to its Escherichia coli K-12 host by interacting with LamB, its cell-surface receptor. We fused C-terminal portions of J, the tail fiber protein of lambda, to maltose-binding protein. Solid-phase binding assays demonstrated that a purified fusion protein comprising only the last 249 residues of J could bind to LamB trimers and inhibited recognition by anti-LamB anti...

We compared the efficacies of liposomal amphotericin B (LAmB) and an amphotericin B lipid complex (ABLC) in diabetic ketoacidotic (DKA) or neutropenic mice with disseminated zygomycosis. ABLC was as effective as LAmB in neutropenic but not DKA mice. Low-dose ABLC was less effective than LAmB at reducing brain fungal burdens in both models.

Granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor enhanced the efficacy of liposomal amphotericin B (LAMB) in a murine model of disseminated infection by Rhizopus oryzae, significantly prolonging survival and reducing tissue burden. The use of gamma interferon (IFN-gamma) alone was ineffective, and IFN-gamma combined with LAMB did not improve the results obtained with LAMB alone.

The survival probability, S N (t), of a diiusing prey (\lamb") in the proximity of N diiusing predators (a \pride of lions") in one dimension is investigated. When the lions are all to one side of the lamb, the survival probability decays as a non-universal power law, S N (t) / t ? N , with the decay exponent N proportional to ln N. The crossover behavior as a function of the relative diiusivit...

Cryptococcal meningoencephalitis is a rapidly lethal infection in immunocompromised patients. Induction regimens are usually administered for 2 weeks. The shortest effective period of induction therapy with liposomal amphotericin B (LAMB) is unknown. The pharmacodynamics of LAMB were studied in murine and rabbit models of cryptococcal meningoencephalitis. The concentrations of LAMB in the plasm...

OBJECTIVE To investigate if combination therapy with liposomal amphotericin B (LAmB), and caspofungin (CAS) is superior to monotherapies in an experimental model with azole-resistant Candida albicans. METHODS This study was carried out between October 2006 and August 2007 in Celal Bayar University, Manisa, Turkey. A total of 144 mice were included in the study, and divided into 4 groups as: c...

LamB protein is involved in the transport of maltose across the outer membrane and constitutes the receptor for phage lambda. In this study we characterized six previously described anti-LamB monoclonal antibodies (mAbs). Four of these, the E-mAbs, recognized determinants that were exposed at the cell surface, whereas the other two, the I-mAbs, recognized determinants which were not exposed. Co...
