23 The quantification of uncertainty of global surface albedo data and products is a critical part 24 of producing complete, physically consistent, and decadal land property data records for studying 25 ecosystem change. A current challenge in validating satellite retrievals of surface albedo is the 26 ability to overcome the spatial scaling errors that can contribute on the order of 20% disagr...

The statistical techniques of multivariate alteration detection, maximum autocorrelation factor transformation, expectation maximization, fuzzy maximum likelihood estimation and probabilistic label relaxation are combined in a unified scheme to classify changes in multispectral satellite data. An example involving bitemporal LANDSAT TM imagery is given.

This paper presents a new system developed in Java for pattern recognition and pattern summarisation in multi-band (RGB) satellite images. The system design is described in some detail. Results of testing the system to analyse and summarise patterns in SPOT MS images and LANDSAT images are also discussed. Keywords—Pattern recognition, image analysis, feature extraction, blackboard component, li...

A method has been developed for urbanization by using satellite data and socio-economic data. These datasets consists three decade Landsat images and population data. A detailed description using flow chart is given to show how to use this data to produce land use/cove maps. The land use/cove maps were used to know the urban growth in Samara City, Russia.

Satellite remote sensing is an advanced tool used to characterize seagrass biomass and monitor changes in clear to less-turbid waters by analyzing multi-temporal satellite images. Seagrass information was extracted from the multi-temporal satellite datasets following a two-step procedure: (i) retrieval of substrate-leaving radiances; and (ii) estimation of seagrass total aboveground biomass (ST...

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Landsat program has been dedicated to sustaining data continuity over the 20-year period during which Landsat Thematic Mapper (TM) and Enhanced TM Plus (ETM+) sensors have been acquiring images of the earth's surface. In 2000, NASA launched the Earth Observing-1 (EO-1) Advanced Land Imager (ALI) to test new technology that could improve t...

The GaoFen-4 (GF-4), launched at the end of December 2015, is China’s first high-resolution geostationary optical satellite. A panchromatic and multispectral sensor (PMS) is onboard the GF-4 satellite. Unfortunately, the GF-4 has no onboard calibration assembly, so on-orbit radiometric calibration is required. Like the charge-coupled device (CCD) onboard HuanJing-1 (HJ) or the wide field of vie...

Satellite images, captured during the growing seasons of barley, sorghum and wheat were analysed to establish a relationship between the spectral response and the harvested grain protein content. This study was conducted near Jimbour (approx. 151°10’E and 27°05’S) in southern Queensland. Grain protein contents of the geo-referenced samples, collected manually during the harvest, were determined...
