During archaeological campaigne on Vucedol site 7 crania and cranial fragments together with 10 halfs of lower jaws were found. Due to existance of crania and lower jaws damages and therefore lack of preserved craniometrical points, it was not possible to measure the same craniometrical lengths on all the samples. Apart from craniometrical measurements, 6 craniometrical indices and ratios were ...
The summer of 1975 proved to be the beginning of a critical time for sharks, great whites in particular. In June of that year, Hollywood released a horror movie that eventually became an international phenomenon, a movie so enormously popular and commercially successful that it forever changed the landscape of summertime box-office fare. Equally powerful was the response of the audience to the ...
Odontogenic myxoma is a rare and locally invasive benign neoplasm found exclusively in jaws. It presents local invasiveness and tendency to recurrence. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the odontogenic myxoma is classified as an odontogenic tumor of ectomesenchymal origin. The odontogenic myxoma is a rare entity found in both jaws while the mandible is involved more commonly tha...
Aneurismal bone cyst (ABC) is a rare bony lesion occurring predominantly in long bones. Its jaws' involvement is uncommon and the simultaneous involvement of both jaws is very rare. This report is about a 27-year-old female experiencing renal failure with ABC involving her maxilla and mandible. The progressive lesion was treated surgically and there was no recurrence after 18 months of follow-up.
Acanthostega is one of the earliest and most primitive limbed vertebrates. Its numerous fish-like features indicate a primarily aquatic lifestyle, yet cranial suture morphology suggests that its skull is more similar to those of terrestrial taxa. Here, we apply geometric morphometrics and two-dimensional finite-element analysis to the lower jaws of Acanthostega and 22 other tetrapodomorph taxa ...
Despite the importance of clonality to understand the pathogenesis and progression of tumors, it has not been investigated yet in giant cell lesions of the jaws. The aim of this study was to analyze the clonality of peripheral giant cell lesions (PGCL) and central giant cell lesions (CGCL) of the jaws. Six samples of PGCL and 5 samples of CGCL were analyzed in this study using the polymorphic h...
Virtual machine technology promises important benefits for grid computing and cluster batch job systems, including improved isolation, customizable workspaces, and support for checkpointing and migration. One way to gain these benefits is to “drill holes” in existing batch computing systems; however, we believe these new capabilities warrant a rethinking of the architectures of existing systems...
Central giant cell granuloma is a benign, aggressive neoplasm composed of multinucleated giant cells that almost exclusively occurs in the jaws though extra- gnathic incidence is rare. Multifocal CGCGs of the jaws are very rare and suggestive of systemic diseases such as hyperparathyroidism, an inherited syndrome such as Noonan- like multiple giant cell lesion syndrome or other disorders.Very f...
Cherubism is a rare hereditary developmental condition of the jaws and generally inherited as an autosomal dominant trait. It is also known as familial fibrous dysplasia of the jaws, familial multilocular cystic disease and hereditary fibrous dysplasia of the jaws. The gene for cherubism is mapped to chromosome 4p16.3 may lead to pathologic activation of osteoclasts and disruption of jaw morpho...
OBJECTIVE This study evaluated the results of the use of curettage followed by liquid nitrogen spray cryosurgery in a number of solid or multicystic ameloblastomas of the jaws and the postoperative complications related to this treatment modality. STUDY DESIGN Thirty-six patients with solid ameloblastoma of the jaws were treated with curettage followed by cryosurgery. The cryotherapy consiste...
