A biometric system provides automatic identification of an individual based on a unique feature or characteristic possessed by him/her. Iris recognition (IR) is known to be the most reliable and accurate biometric identification system. The iris recognition system (IRS) consists of an automatic segmentation mechanism which is based on the Hough transform (HT). This paper presents a robust IRS i...

Iris recognition is considered to be the most reliable and accurate biometric identification system available. Iris recognition system captures an image of an individual’s eye, the iris in the image is then meant for the further segmentation and normalization for extracting its feature. The performance of iris recognition systems depends on the process of segmentation. Segmentation is used for ...

A modified Roux-en-Y repositioning of rat small intestine was performed so that the proximal segment of bowel (A) received only bile and pancreastic secretions, the second (B) received food direct from the stomach, and these two segments drained into a third (C). Four to five weeks after operation, cell production was assessed by injection of vincristine into operated, sham-operated and unopera...

Iris patterns have been proven to be unique for each individual making them useful in human identification. Segmentation and feature extraction are crucial steps in matching one iris image with another. In this paper, iris segmentation is performed using Canny edge detection and the circular Hough transform. To overcome the pupil-iris center offset as well as iris stretching due to pupil dilati...

BACKGROUND Tuberculosis-associated immune reconstitution inflammatory syndrome (TB-IRIS) remains a poorly understood complication in HIV-TB patients receiving antiretroviral therapy (ART). TB-IRIS could be associated with an exaggerated immune response to TB-antigens. We compared the recovery of IFNγ responses to recall and TB-antigens and explored in vitro innate cytokine production in TB-IRIS...

PURPOSE To investigate, through ultrasound biomicroscopy images, the presence of plateau iris configuration in eyes with narrow-angle from patients with open-angle glaucoma and in eyes with previous acute primary angle-closure and compare the biometric features of eyes with plateau iris configuration with those of normal eyes. METHODS Ultrasound biomicroscopic images from 196 patients with op...

The hypothesis that epithelial cells release preformed antibiotic peptides as components of mucosal innate immunity has gained experimental support in recent years. In the mammalian small intestine, Paneth cells secrete granules that are rich in α-defensins and additional antimicrobial peptides into the lumen of the crypt. The α-defensins are homologues of peptides that function as mediators of...

Self-renewal is essential for multicellular organisms but carries the risk of somatic mutations that can lead to cancer, which is particularly critical for rapidly renewing tissues in a highly mutagenic environment such as the intestinal epithelium. Using computational modeling and in vivo experimentation, we have analyzed how adenomatous polyposis coli (APC) mutations and β-catenin aberrations...

As a reliable personal identification method, iris recognition has been widely used for a large number of applications. Since a variety of iris devices produced by different vendors may be used for some large-scale applications, it is necessary to match heterogeneous iris images against the variations of sensors, illuminators, imaging distance and imaging conditions. This paper aims to improve ...

Low resolution iris image can degrade the performance of iris recognition. A new iris image zooming method by using edge-directed image upsampling method based on radial basis function (RBF) interpolation [9] is proposed to restore a single iris image into a highresolution image. By increasing the resolution of iris image, we found that the performance of iris recognition was increased.
