This paper conducts acoustic experiments from a signal processing perspective, to examine the “-/a/ /C_” syllable narrow focus processing strategy of English L2 learners. The research discusses F0, OQ and SQ as key phonatory acoustic parameters. L2 strategies are examined by measuring deviations from L1 group to L2 group. We summarise the organisation and results of the first shared task aimed at detecting the most similar texts in a large multilingual collection. The dataset of the shared was based on Wikipedia dumps with interlanguage links with further filtering to ensure comparability of the paired articles. The eleven system runs we received have been evaluated using the TREC evaluation metrics.
We propose an annotation scheme for learner Chinese in the Universal Dependencies (UD) framework. The schemewas adapted from a UD scheme for Mandarin Chinese to take interlanguage characteristics into account. We applied the scheme to a set of 100 sentenceswritten by learners of Chinese as a foreign language, and we report inter-annotator agreement on syntactic annotation.
