Iron deficiency anemia (IDA) is the most common cause of anemia in the United States, and it particularly affects women of child-bearing age and black, non-Hispanic race/ethnicity. During the surveillance period there were 10,157 incident ("new") cases of IDA among active component service members; the overall incidence rate was 7.1 per 10,000 person-years. The annual incidence rates increased...
Digital image correlation (DIC) is a widely used optical metrology for quantitative deformation measurement due to its non-contact, low-cost, highly precise feature. DIC relies on nonlinear optimization algorithm. Thus it is quite important to efficiently obtain a reliable initial guess. The most widely used method for obtaining initial guess is reliability-guided digital image correlation (RG-...
OBJECTIVE To improve the quality of care provided to patients with iron deficiency anaemia (IDA). DESIGN Service development. SETTING District General Hospital. PATIENTS Adults with IDA. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES Descriptive report of the practicalities and benefits of establishing an IDA clinic. CONCLUSIONS The IDA clinic is a novel service development which enhances the management of pa...
This paper discusses the matching conditions as introduced in two recently developed methods for stabilization of underactuated mechanical systems. It is shown that the controlled Lagrangians method is naturally embedded in the IDA-PBC method. The integrability of the latter method is studied in general.
We have cloned and characterized the ida gene that is required for proliferation of imaginal disc cells during Drosophila development. IDA is homologous to APC5, a subunit of the anaphase-promoting complex (APC/cyclosome). ida mRNA is detected in most cell types throughout development, but it accumulates to its highest levels during early embryogenesis. A maternal component of IDA is required f...
In this paper we consider the application of a new formulation of Passivity Based Control, known as Interconnection and Damping Assignment, or IDA-PBC, to the problem of stabilization of underactuated mechanical systems, which requires the modification of both the potential and the kinetic energies. Our main contribution is the characterization of a class of systems for which IDA-PBC yields a s...
OBJECTIVE To determine the impact of iron deficiency anemia (IDA) in pregnancy on young child development. METHODS A 2-year follow-up of 850 children born to women who participated in a double-blind cluster randomized controlled trial of prenatal micronutrient supplementation in western rural China. These women were randomly assigned to receive either daily folic acid, iron/folic acid (60 mg ...
Abscission is an active process that enables plants to shed unwanted organs. Because the purpose of the flower is to facilitate pollination, it often is abscised after fertilization. We have identified an Arabidopsis ethylene-sensitive mutant, inflorescence deficient in abscission (ida), in which floral organs remain attached to the plant body after the shedding of mature seeds, even though a f...
Background: Iron Deficiency Anemia (IDA) is the most common form of anemia. Understanding the relationship between IDA and hearing loss may provide new insights into managing hearing loss. Objective This study aimed to investigate the relationship between IDA and hearing loss in women aged 12-45 years referred to Amir Al-Momenin and Al-Zahra hospitals in Rasht City, Iran. Methods: In this cas...
Survivin is a member of the inhibitor of apoptosis protein family (IAP) that acts in both inhibition of apoptosis and regulation of the cell cycle. Despite the fact that survivin is overexpressed in almost all human malignancies, its expression is undetectable in most normal adult tissues, which is what makes it a potential target for anticancer interventions. The aim of this work was to invest...
