A novel method combining elemental sulfur and selenium was developed, yielding crystalline sulfur-selenium compounds. The compounds were melted, and an organic comonomer added. Once the organic comonomer was consumed, the viscous compound was vitrified and allowed to cool yielding organic-inorganic hybrid polymers that are termed Organically Modified Chalcogenide (ORMOCHALC) polymers.

A new class of organic-inorganic hybrid aerogels having small pores and narrow pore size distribution are synthesized from well-dispersed clay platelets in water as base catalyst. Clay-catalyzed organic gels have strong advantage in controlling nanopore structure as well as reducing drying shrinkage by reinforcing the organic network with inorganic platelets.

We present a review of hybrid inorganic/organic light emitting materials and devices. The essence of the Hybrid I/OTM approach is to combine materials and structures from each category in such a way as to obtain best-of-both-worlds performance.
