In the preceding paper (1)) the isolation, amino acid sequence, and carbohydrate composition of several glycopeptides obtained from rabbit y-globulin were described. In this communication we report the isolation and some properties of glycopeptides from a bovine y-globulin of colostrum and a human Fraction II-3 y-globulin. The amino acid sequence of a glycopeptide from bovine y-globulin has bee...

Yersinia spp. are animal pathogens, some of which cause human disease. We sequenced 10 Yersinia isolates (from six species: Yersinia enterocolitica, Y. fredericksenii, Y. kristensenii, Y. pestis, Y. pseudotuberculosis, and Y. ruckeri) to high-quality draft or complete status. The genomes range in size from 3.77 to 4.94 Mbp.

background: the equivalent dose in the human body due to the natural gamma-emitting radionucides (238u, 232th and 40k) in the surface soil surrounding the consolidated tin mine site in bukuru-jos, nigeria has been determined in this study. materials and methods: measurements of the soil natural radioactivity were made using a multi-channel pulseheight analyzer (canberra series 10 plus) coupled ...

Human Y-chromosomal DNA analysis is becoming well established in forensic sciences. That is because human Y-chromosomal DNA polymorphisms are the only genetic markers that are able to specifically characterize and identify male culprit DNA in material from sexual assault or forcible rape cases where offenders are almost always males. Appropriate Y-chromosomal DNA markers evaluated for forensic ...

It has previously been demonstrated that the C-terminal alanyl residue in the B-chain of porcine insulin can be exchanged with a threonyl residue in a carboxypeptidase Y catalyzed transpeptidation reaction using threonine amide as nucleophile. However, with this procedure the transpeptidation product, human insulin amide, was obtained in relatively low yields. In the present paper it is demonst...

Y-linked single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) have served as powerful tools for reconstructing the worldwide genealogy of human Y chromosomes and for illuminating patrilineal relationships among modern human populations. However, there has been no systematic, worldwide survey of sequence variation within the protein-coding genes of the Y chromosome. Here we report and analyze coding sequence ...

Human polymorphonuclear leukocytes (PMNs, or neutrophils) are the primary innate host defense against invading bacterial pathogens. Neutrophils are rapidly recruited to sites of infection and ingest microorganisms through a process known as phagocytosis. Following phagocytosis by human PMNs, microorganisms are killed by reactive oxygen species (ROS) and microbicidal products contained within gr...

Human plasma fibrinogen (Fgn) is heterogenous with respect to the size of its ‘y chains. which differ in that residues 408 to 41 1 of #{176}y chains (93% of total) are replaced in “y’ chains by a unique 20 amino acid sequence (#{176}y to #{176}y ). In this study. we compared the contribution to adenosine diphosphate (ADP)-induced platelet aggregation of the Aa chains in Fgn molecules containing...

Bergg%rd (1) has previously reported the presence of low molecular weight y-globulins in both normal human plasma and urine. Recently, Takahashi and Schmid (2) have succeeded in isolating 3s yr-globulins from Cohn Fraction VI (3) of normal blood. In this paper, the isolation of two groups of low molecular weight y-globulins from normal human plasma and the characterization of one of these, the ...
