Both sides of a graphene oxide (ai-GO) layer are decorated with functional groups. For the first time it is demonstrated that an effective reduction of ai-GO to graphene can be performed, even if the reducing agent can access only one side of ai-GO. A general reduction mechanism is proposed.

Thermally reduced graphene nanoplatelets were covalently functionalised via Bingel reaction to improve their dispersion and interfacial bonding with an epoxy resin. Functionalised graphene were characterized by microscopic, thermal and spectroscopic techniques. Thermal analysis of functionalised graphene revealed a significantly higher thermal stability compared to graphene oxide. Inclusion of ...

A signal amplification system for electrochemiluminescence (ECL) of quantum dots (QDs) was developed by using electrochemically reduced graphene oxide (ERGO) to construct a nanobiosensing platform. Due to the structural defects of GO, the ECL emission of QDs coated on GO modified electrode was significantly quenched. After the electrochemical reduction of GO, the restoration of structural conju...

Graphite oxide (GO) has received extensive interest as a precursor for the bulk production of graphene-based materials. Here, the highly energetic nature of GO, noted from the self-propagating thermal deoxygenating reaction observed in solid state, is explored. Although the resulting graphene product is quite stable against combustion even in a natural gas fl ame, its thermal stability is signi...

In this study, we presented a droplet-based microfluidic system for synthesizing three-dimensional (3D) graphene structure, called graphene popcorn. The droplets that were obtained by varying the flow rates and the concentration of graphene oxide (GO) solution were incubated in the furnace for rapid evaporation, resulting in the reduction of the GO as well as the aggregation of GO to form the g...

Graphene exhibits a range of exceptional physical properties and holds great promise for development of novel bulk materials for widespread applications. Properly engineering of assembled structures of graphene at multiple length scales is essential to realize its full potential in bulk forms. In this Concept article, we highlight the unique colloidal and gelation behavior of a commonly used pr...

This investigation studies the various magnetic behaviors of graphene oxide (GO) and reduced graphene oxides (rGOs) and elucidates the relationship between the chemical states that involve defects therein and their magnetic behaviors in GO sheets. Magnetic hysteresis loop reveals that the GO is ferromagnetic whereas photo-thermal moderately reduced graphene oxide (M-rGO) and heavily reduced gra...

Graphene oxide (GO) holds tremendous potential for large-area electronics, high strength and conducting fillers in composites, and high-surface-area electrodes for energy storage. Graphene oxide for such applications will require manufacturing methods that are industrially compatible but also preserve its unique properties. Recent work by Korkut et al. describes a promising new scheme for conti...

Graphene oxide (GO) is a hotspot, especially in the field of biomedical. However, the clinical application of GO is still faces a lot of challenges. In order to improve the solubility and biocompatibility of GO, polyethylene glycol (PEG) was grafted on the surface of graphene oxide by amide reaction. PEGylated graphene oxide (PEG-GO) was characterized using Fourier transform infrared spectrosco...
