Green shoot cuttings of 10 different grapevine species were inoculated with Agrobacterium vitis to find disease-related metabolites in the grapevine. Crown galls formed 60 days after inoculation varied in gall severity (GS) evaluated by gall incidence (GI) and gall diameter (GD), which were classified into three response types as RR (low GI and small GD), SR (high GI and small GD), and SS (high...
Ethylene (ET) is a gaseous plant hormone that plays essential roles in biotic and abiotic stress responses in plants. However, the role of ET in cold tolerance varies in different species. This study revealed that low temperature promotes the release of ET in grapevine. The treatment of exogenous 1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylate increased the cold tolerance of grapevine. By contrast, the appli...
Mekuria, T. A., Gutha, L. R., Martin, R. R., and Naidu, R. A. 2009. Genome diversity and intraand interspecies recombination events in Grapevine fanleaf virus. Phytopathology 99:1394-1402. Grapevine fanleaf virus (GFLV) was documented in self-rooted vines of four grapevine (Vitis vinifera) cultivars in eastern Washington. GFLV was found as mixed infection in cvs. Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Cab...
Crown gall of grapevine, which is caused by tumorigenic Rhizobium vitis, is the most important bacterial disease of grapevine throughout the world. Screening tests of biological control agents resulted in the discovery of a nonpathogenic R. vitis strain ARK-1. By soaking grapevine roots with a cell suspension of strain ARK-1 prior to planting in the field, ARK-1 treatment significantly reduced ...
Grapevine (Vitis) rootstock varieties or cultivars are used to confer resistance and tolerance to insect and disease pests, unfavorable soil conditions, and other environmental conditions to cultivars that are susceptible to these conditions but otherwise have desired properties. The need to genotype and thoroughly identify grapevine rootstock varieties in the grape industry has become increasi...
Grapevine (Vitis vinifera) proanthocyanidins contribute to plant defense mechanisms against biotic stress and also play a critical role in organoleptic properties of wine. In grapevine berry, these compounds are mainly accumulated in exocarps and seeds in the very early stages of development. A previous study has already identified VvMybPA1 as the first transcription factor involved in the regu...
Here, we report the genome sequence of grapevine virus T (GVT), a novel single-stranded RNA virus identified from a transcriptome of grapevine. The genome of GVT is 8,701 nucleotides in length and encodes five open reading frames. GVT is a putative member of the genus Foveavirus in the family Betaflexiviridae.
Here, we report the genome sequence of grapevine virus K (GVK), a novel single-stranded RNA virus identified from a transcriptome of grapevine. The genome of GVK is 7,476 nucleotides in length and encodes 5 open reading frames. GVK is a putative member of the genus Vitivirus in the family Betaflexiviridae.
Methylobacterium sp. strain GXF4 is an isolate from grapevine. Here we present the sequence, assembly, and annotation of its genome, which may shed light on its role as a grapevine xylem inhabitant. To our knowledge, this is the first genome announcement of a plant xylem-associated strain of the genus Methylobacterium.
ITALIC! Xylella fastidiosasubsp. ITALIC! fastidiosacauses Pierce's disease of grapevine. Presented here is the draft genome sequence of the Stag's Leap strain, previously used in pathogenicity/virulence assays to evaluate grapevine germplasm bearing Pierce's disease resistance and a phenotypic assessment of knockout mutants to determine gene function.
