Here, in this work we have designed a molecular bridge structure which can be used as a spin filter where the prototypical highly ferromagnetic m-phenylene connected bis(aminoxyl) diradical is used as a bridging fragment between two semi-infinitely widened gold (Au) electrodes along the [100] direction. A state-of-the-art non-equilibrium Green function's (NEGF) method coupled with the density f...

Motivated by the use of electrodes modified at the nanoscale by supported metal species, we studied computationally how the reactivity changes in such a composite system compared to the reactivity of the individual systems, metal clusters and metal surfaces. Specifically, we examined hydrogen adsorption on and hydrogen spillover from Au- and Cu-supported Pt(3) and Pd(3) clusters, using a method...

Nanoporous metals similar to paper in form are developed using Japanese washi paper as a template to create hierarchical porous electrodes. This method is used to create a trimodal -nanoporous Au electrode, as a well as a hierarchical NiMn electrode that achieves high electrochemical capacitance and a rapid rate of oxygen evolution.

Well-defined gold nanobelts as well as unique gold nanocombs made of nanobelts were readily synthesized by the reduction of HAuCl4 with ascorbic acid in aqueous mixed solutions of the cationic surfactant cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) and the anionic surfactant sodium dodecylsulfonate (SDSn). Single-crystalline gold nanobelts grown along the <110> and <211> directions were prepared in mi...

Mechanically flexible active multielectrode arrays (MEA) have been developed for local signal amplification and high spatial resolution. However, their opaqueness limited optical observation and light stimulation during use. Here, we show a transparent, ultraflexible, and active MEA, which consists of transparent organic electrochemical transistors (OECTs) and transparent Au grid wirings. The t...

A combined experimental and theoretical analysis of the charge transport through single-molecule junctions is performed to define the influence of molecular end groups for increasing electrode separation. For both amine-ended and thiol-ended octanes contacted to gold electrodes, we study signatures of chain formation by analyzing kinks in conductance traces, the junction length, and inelastic e...

A new hydrogen sensor was fabricated by coating a Pd-decorated In2O3 film on Au electrodes. In response to 1 vol% H2 at room temperature, an ultra high sensitivity of 4.6 × 10(7) was achieved. But after an annealing treatment in vacuum, its sensitivity degenerated by 4 orders of magnitude. In addition, the response time and recovery time were also extended from 28 s and 32 s to 242 s and 108 s,...

Microsupercapacitors are touted as one of the promising "next frontiers" in energy-storage research and applications. Despite their potential, significant challenges still exist in terms of physical properties and electrochemical performance, particularly attaining high energy density, stability, ease of synthesis, and feasibility of large-scale production. We present new freestanding microporo...

A new Schiff base 2-aminothiophenol furfural self assembled monolayer (SAM) has been fabricated on a bare gold electrode as a novel sensor for determination of dopamine. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopywas utilized to investigate the properties of the Au 2-aminothiophenol furfural self assembled monolayermodified electrode (Au ATF SAM-ME) using the [Fe(CN)6]3-/4- redox couple. The electro...

was used to provide microamperage (10 to 400 ILA) to vials containing either synthetic urine or supplemented synthetic urine. Bacteria were added to vials, and parameters of growth, bacterial killing, and multiple electrode materials were examined. Escherichia coli and Proteus species were both inhibited and killed at various microamperages and with several electrode types, the most efficient b...
