Ganciclovir and foscarnet possess substantial activity against cytomegalovirus. Both exhibit dose-limiting toxicity, which reduces their clinical usefulness. We demonstrated synergistic inhibition of cytomegalovirus replication in vitro by ganciclovir and foscarnet.
