The classical isoperimetric inequality in R states that the surface of smallest area enclosing a given volume is a sphere. We show that the least area surface enclosing two equal volumes is a double bubble, a surface made of two pieces of round spheres separated by a flat disk, meeting along a single circle at an angle of 120◦.

Bonamia ostreae is an intracellular protistan parasite affecting flat oysters Ostrea edulis. It can be detected in juveniles but mortalities mainly affect oysters which are more than 2 years old. The parasite is usually observed inside haemocytes and sometimes free, notably in gill epithelia suggesting a parasite release through this organ. However, the infective form and ways of entry and rele...

Chemical homogeneous poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS) surface with dot-like protrusion pattern was used to investigate the individual effect of surface microtopography on protein adsorption and subsequent biological responses. Fibrinogen (Fg) and fibronectin (Fn) were chosen as model proteins due to their effect on platelet and cell adhesion, respectively. Fg labeled with (125)I and fluorescein is...

The classical isoperimetric inequality in R3 states that the surface of smallest area enclosing a given volume is a sphere. We show that the least area surface enclosing two equal volumes is a double bubble, a surface made of two pieces of round spheres separated by a flat disk, meeting along a single circle at an angle of 120.

The studied area is a small portion of Sanandaj – Sirjan zone. Metasomatism at the contact of intrusive body studied and penetration of Al-rich rocks caused tourmalinization to stratiform tourmalinite in pelitic hornfels. In addition, hydrothermal fluids crystallized tourmaline nodules in monzogranite surface. The Fe/ (Fe + Mg) ratio in varied between 0.4-0.76 in stratiform tourmaline and 0.83-...

The parietal cortex receives both visual- and motor-related information and is believed to be one of the sites of visuo-motor coordination. This study for the first time characterizes integration of visual and motor information in activity of neurons of parietal area 5 during locomotion under conditions that require visuo-motor coordination. The activity of neurons was recorded in cats during w...

We formulate, solve computationally and study experimentally the problem of collecting solar energy in three dimensions. We demonstrate that absorbers and reflectors can be combined in the absence of sun tracking to build three-dimensional photovoltaic (3DPV) structures that can generate measured energy densities (energy per base area, kWh/m) higher by a factor of 2–20 than stationary flat PV p...

This paper presents a “flat” mobile location management scheme for Personal Communication Networks (PCNs) with the goal of reducing both mobile tracking and location costs. Mobile tracking costs are reduced by the use of one-level tracking for mobiles in their “home area”, and a two-level tracking approach for mobiles visiting other areas. Mobile location costs are reduced by using an improved ...

The study describes chitosan membrane platform modified with nanostructure pattern which using nanotechnology to fabricate. The cell-substrate interaction between neuro-2a neuroblasts cell lines and chitosan membrane (flat, nanostructure and nanostructure pattern types) was investigated. The adhered morphology of neuro-2a cells depends on the topography of chitosan surface. We have found that n...
