This article reviews work completed by the authors to examine how musculotendon forces from index finger muscles impact finger kinetics and kinematics. Results were obtained from in vivo studies, computer simulations, and cadaver investigations. Passive joint impedance and finger posture had particularly strong effects on force transmission in the fingers.
