In a coupled ferroelectric-ferromagnetic system, i.e., a composite multiferroic, the propagation of magnetic or ferroelectric excitations across the whole structure is a key issue for applications. Of special interest is the dynamics of localized magnetic or ferroelectric modes (LM) across the ferroelectric-ferromagnetic interface, particularly when the LM's carrier frequency is in the band of ...

We report the coexistence of ferromagnetic order and superconductivity in UCoGe at ambient pressure. Magnetization measurements show that UCoGe is a weak ferromagnet with a Curie temperature T(C)=3 K and a small ordered moment m(0)=0.03 micro(B). Superconductivity is observed with a resistive transition temperature T(s)=0.8 K for the best sample. Thermal-expansion and specific-heat measurements...

Electrospun polymer fibers were prepared containing mixtures of different proportions of ferromagnetic and superparamagnetic nanoparticles. The magnetic properties of these fibers were then explored using a superconducting quantum interference device. Mixed superparamagnetic/ferromagnetic fibers were examined for mesoscale magnetic exchange coupling, which was not observed as theoretically pred...

The relative volume of spin states in the phase space is introduced for the ±J model of spin glasses. Analysis of its temperature dependence shows that the Nishimori line separates the pure ferromagnetic-like region in the high-temperature side of the ferromagnetic phase from the randomness-dominated region in the low-temperature side. The peak value of the relative volume of the perfect ferrom...

We conducted in vitro and in vivo experiments to study magnetic resonance imaging of intraocular foreign bodies. Diamagnetic and paramagnetic foreign bodies were imaged without artifact and without movement during the imaging process, while ferromagnetic foreign bodies produced large amounts of artifact that prevented meaningful images. All fetromagnetic foreign bodies moved during in vitro ima...

We have studied the exchange anisotropy of ferromagnetic Fe films grown on antiferromagnetic FeF2 single crystals. The behavior of the hysteresis loops of the Fe above and below the Néel temperature TN of FeF2 indicates a 90° rotation of the ferromagnetic easy axis due to the antiferromagnetic ordering. By examining the Fe hysteresis loops together with the FeF2 susceptibility behavior we infer...

Ferromagnetic resonance has been used to investigate the inter-layer coupling in a bilayered manganite La(2-2x)Sr(1+2x)Mn(2)O(7) (x = 0.38) single crystal. The coexistence of a ferromagnetic resonance line and a paramagnetic resonance line was observed over a broad temperature range. Antiferromagnetic coupling between the adjacent MnO(2) bilayers can be identified from the observation of an opt...

The phase diagram of the p-spin-interacting spin glass model in a transverse field is investigated in the limit p → ∞ under the presence of ferromagnetic bias. Using the replica method and the static approximation, we show that the phase diagram consists of four phases: Quantum paramagnetic, classical paramagnetic, ferromagnetic, and spin-glass phases. We also show that the static approximation...

We study one-dimensional itinerant electron models with ferromagnetic coupling to investigate the origin of the 0.7 anomaly in quantum point contacts. Linear conductance calculations from the quantum Monte Carlo technique for spin interactions of different spatial range suggest that 0.7(2e;{2}/h) anomaly results from a strong interaction of low-density conduction electrons to ferromagnetic fluc...
