DIII-D experiments have studied interaction between injected 80 keV deuterons and fast waves (FWs) at 60 MHz (up to 1.4 MW), 90 MHz (up to 2 MW), and at 116 MHz (up to 1.6 MW), at ion cyclotron harmonic numbers between 4 and 8. While strong absorption of FWs at the 4th harmonic of injected deuterons has been clearly observed, ion absorption under the same conditions at 6th and 8th harmonics is ...

Polar and primary metabolites of cyclosporin A (CsA) have successfully been isolated by a novel separation protocol. An efficient, easy-to-scale-up chromatographic adsorption/desorption operation recovers polar and primary CsA metabolite pools from large volumes of urine; purified CsA metabolites are subsequently obtained by high-resolution preparative elution chromatography of the semipurified...

Calcium absorption was measured in ten male volunteers from skimmed milk, Ca-enriched skimmed milk or watercress (Nasturtium officinale) soup. The foods were labelled extrinsically with 30 mg 44Ca. Shortly after consuming the labelled meal, each subject was given an intravenous injection of 3 mg 42Ca. Fractional absorption from the oral dose was determined from plasma and urine samples collecte...

Native methionine enkephalin and methionine enkephalin generated proteolytically from a larger peptide were both identified and quantified from bovine cornea by negative ion fast atom bombardment-mass spectrometry. The corneal peptides were purified initially be reverses-phase high performance liquid chromatography and identified tentatively by radioreceptor assay and/or radioimmunoassay.

We consider the class of Iterative Shrinkage-Thresholding Algorithms (ISTA) for solving linear inverse problems arising in signal/image processing. This class of methods is attractive due to its simplicity, however, they are also known to converge quite slowly. In this paper we present a Fast Iterative Shrinkage-Thresholding Algorithm (FISTA) which preserves the computational simplicity of ISTA...

A new approach to fast-neutron dosimeq is described. It involves circulating a liquid with dissolved chemicals between a localized neutron field and a remote area where neutron-induced radioactivities are measured continuously. This approach employs reactions whch generate relatively short-lived radioactive byproducts. Sensitivity to the neutron energy spectrum is achieved by choosing several r...

An interaction between two atoms, bonded or non-bonded, consists of interatomic contributions: electrostatic energy, exchange energy and electronic correlation energy. Together with the intra-atomic energy of an atom, these contributions are the basic components of the Interacting Quantum Atom (IQA) energy decomposition scheme. Here, we investigate IQA's proper use in conjunction with an explic...

Fast radio bursts (FRB) are millisecond-duration radio pulses with apparent extragalactic origins. All but two of the FRBs have been discovered using the Parkes dish, which employs multiple beams formed by an array of feed horns on its focal plane. In this paper, we show that (i) the preponderance of multiple-beam detections and (ii) the detection rates for varying dish diameters can be used to...

The title compound, C(16)H(12)O(5), common name: lucidin ω-methyl ether, exists as a planar mol-ecule (r.m.s. deviation = 0.04 Å). Within the mol-ecule, the 1-hydr-oxy group forms a hydrogen bond to the adjacent carbonyl O atom, and the 3-hydr-oxy group forms a hydrogen bond to the adjacent meth-oxy O atom. The meth-oxy O atom is disordered over two positions of equal occupancy.

We investigated structural disorder by a new structural parameter, quasi-nearest atom (QNA), in atomistic configurations of eight metallic glass-forming systems generated through molecular dynamics simulations at various temperatures. Structural analysis reveals that the scaled distribution of the number of QNA appears to be an universal property of metallic liquids and the spatial distribution...
