plasmacytoma are extramedullary accumulations of plasma cells. most extramedullary plasmacytomas are associated with the upper respiratory tract. the lung is rarely involved. we report a rare case of lung plasmacytoma with multiple myeloma. the patient is a 60-year-old male who presented with chest pain and a lung mass visualized on ct scan. a preliminary diagnosis of occult lung cancer with wi...
extramedullary plasmacytoma (emp) is a rare neoplasm of soft tissue which usually arises in the respiratory tract, nasal cavity, sinuses and nasopharynx. multiple extramedullary plasmacytomas are extremely rare, especially those that are not associated with multiple myeloma.we describe multiple primary emp in a 37 year old man, without involvement of bone or bone marrow. emp usually has a good ...
In some patients with multiple myeloma, extramedullary masses may be present at diagnosis or may develop during treatment. Recently, multiple myeloma has been treated using newer therapeutic regimens based on thalidomide and bortezomib. Using these drugs, positive responses to treatment, not found with conventional antineoplastic agents, have been reported along with an improvement in patient o...
Extramedullary myeloma (EMM) is the presence of clonal plasma cells (PCs) outside the bone marrow in a patient with multiple myeloma (MM). EMM can be present at the time of initial diagnosis (primary EMM) or at the time of relapse (secondary EMM) [1]. EMM has an incidence of 7% to 20% at presentation and 6% to 20% during disease progression [2]. Using sensitive imaging techniques including MRI ...
extramedullary plasmacytoma is a rare neoplasm characterized by monoclonal proliferation of plasma cells. most lesions occur in the head and neck, primarily in the upper aerodigestive tract. the nasal cavity and nasal septum are the most common sites of occurrence. in this report, three patients admitted in our clinic with history of nasal obstruction and/or epistaxis. patients were diagnosed w...
We present a rare case of a multiple recurrent extramedullary plasmacytoma of the breast and spine that showed aggressive behaviour without bone marrow involvement. A 29-year-old woman initially presented with extramedullary plasmacytoma of the left breast that was treated with radiotherapy. Shortly after, a recurrence appeared in the right breast, spine, and in both breasts, despite treatment ...
Plasmacytomas occurring in extramedullary sites are rare tumours, particularly so when located in the gastrointestinal tract. We report the case of a solitary extramedullary plasmacytoma arising in the duodenum and simulating a carcinoma of the head of the pancreas. Diagnostic and treatment options are discussed.
Extramedullary hematopoiesis is a complication of a number of myeloproliferative disorders. MR imaging of the orbits was performed in a patient with bilateral orbital swelling with known myeloproliferative disorder and myelofibrosis. The study revealed symmetric, bilateral enhancing masses in the lacrimal fossae extending into the nasolacrimal ducts. Biopsy demonstrated sclerotic extramedullary...
We report a case of a thoracic intradural extramedullary capillary hemangioma. The MR imaging appearance was nonspecific for this lesion, and it could not be distinguished from more common spinal intradural extramedullary lesions. The presence of subtly enlarged abnormal vessels on contrast MR images should, however, lead one to consider a vascular mass and order preoperative spinal arteriography.
