In this paper we study, via variational methods, the problem of scattering of time harmonic acoustic waves by an unbounded sound soft surface. The boundary ∂D is assumed to lie within a finite distance of a flat plane and the incident wave is that arising from an inhomogeneous term in the Helmholtz equation whose support lies within some finite distance of the boundary ∂D. Via analysis of an eq...

in their 2016 article, saltman and duran provide a thoughtful examination of the governance challenges involved in different care delivery models adopted in primary care and hospitals in two european countries. this commentary examines the limited potential of structural changes to achieve real reform and considers that, unless governance arrangements actually succeed in penetrating organizatio...

In this article, the authors examine importance of crime prevention in context ethno-social relations. The problem interethnic interaction is extremely important for any multi-ethnic state. Interethnic contacts are not always positive, which why conflicts one most and relevant areas research modern social sciences. Ethnic objectively lie on line differences between ethnic groups, subjective bas...

Social and political tensions keep on fueling armed conflicts around the world. Although each conflict is the result of an individual context-specific mixture of interconnected factors, ethnicity appears to play a prominent and almost ubiquitous role in many of them. This overall state of affairs is likely to be exacerbated by anthropogenic climate change and in particular climate-related natur...

We use experimental methods to study coordination games analogous to voting games over fixed divisions of a pie. We find that players use the ethnic or gender identities of other players, rather than other payoff irrelevant features of a game’s description, to achieve coordination. Coordination along or across gender lines, we show, can be attributed in part to the presence of social norms rath...

The aim of this work is to model a jet diffusion flame, to show the corresponding proof of existence of solutions, and to present numerical results. The model is based on the flamelet equations for the chemistry and on the mixture fraction for the flow. Numerical tests are carried out for Sandia Flame D and the results are found to compare well with available data found in the literature.

We prove a general finite-dimensional reduction theorem for critical equations of scalar curvature type. Solutions of these equations are constructed as a sum of peaks. The use of this theorem reduces the proof of existence of multi-peak solutions to some test-functions estimates and to the analysis of the interactions of peaks.

Chinese governmental repression in Xinjiang against the Uighur minzu, or ethnic group, constitutes a significant infringement on human rights. The atmosphere of repression in Xinjiang is perhaps unmatched even by that of Tibet, and it is virtually the only region in China where execution of political prisoners is still common. Uighurs are subject to severe censorship, arbitrary arrest and the d...

We show lower bounds on the number of sample points and on the number of coin tosses used by general sampling algorithms for estimating the average value of functions over a large domain. The bounds depend on the desired precision and on the error probability of the estimate. Our lower bounds match upper bounds established by known algorithms, up to a mul-tiplicative constant. Furthermore, we g...

This paper presents an application of voting geometry to individual decision making. We demonstrate that a number of decision anomalies can arise as a natural consequence of the aggregation of preferences of different neural systems. We present a proof of existence of a set of voting procedures that can account for the attraction effect, the similarity effect and the compromise effect, and prov...
