The effects of six weeks of threshold pressure inspiratory muscle training (IMT) on inspiratory muscle performance, breathing pattern and exercise performance were studied in eight patients with severe airflow obstruction. The results indicated that IMT improved inspiratory muscle performance but did not affect exercise performance or breathing pattern during maximal exercise.

It is well established that physical exercise affects both hippocampal neurogenesis and memory functions. Until now, distinctive effects of controlled and voluntary training (VT) on behavior and neurogenesis as well as interactions between exercise intensity, neurogenesis and memory performance are still elusive. The present study tested the impact of moderate controlled and VT on memory format...

The purpose of this study was to explore the dose-response relationship between resistance exercise intensity and cognitive performance. Sixty-eight participants were randomly assigned into control, 40%, 70%, or 100% of 10-repetition maximal resistance exercise groups. Participants were tested on Day 1 (baseline) and on Day 2 (measures were taken relative to performance of the treatment). Heart...

Background: Inflammation is the body’s response to various diseases that also happens after strenuous exercise. Previous studies showed significant effect of fish oil on reducing inflammation in patients but its effect on exercise inflammation and muscular performance is not well understood. Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate the effect of 4-weeks fish oil supplementation...

BACKGROUND Acute exercise performance can be limited by arterial hypoxemia, such that hyperoxia may be an ergogenic aid by increasing tissue oxygen availability. Hyperoxia during a single bout of exercise performance has been examined using many test modalities, including time trials (TTs), time to exhaustion (TTE), graded exercise tests (GXTs), and dynamic muscle function tests. Hyperoxia has ...

The mechanisms of central fatigue are largely unexplored, but the central fatigue hypothesis suggests that increased brain serotonin (5-HT) can cause a deterioration in sport and exercise performance. There is now convincing evidence that exercise-induced increases in the plasma free tryptophan (f-TRP)/branched-chain amino acids (BCCA) ratio are associated with increased brain 5-HT and the onse...
