ERCP is an endoscopic procedure with a complication risk ranging from 2.5 to 8%. The most frequent complications are pancreatitis, cholangitis, hemorrhage or perforation. Hepatic hematoma after ERCP is a potentially serious, rare complication. Not many cases are reported in the literature. We present here two new cases of hepatic hematoma following ERCP along with a review of the literature and...

AIM The optimal treatment for bile duct stones (in terms of cost, complications and accuracy) is unclear. The aim of our study was to determine the predictive factors for preoperative endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP). METHODS Patients undergoing preoperative ERCP (< or =90 d before laparoscopic cholecystectomy) were evaluated in this retrospective study from the 1st of Ja...

Background. Several previous studies assessed the competence in endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) using the bile duct cannulation success rate. However, the cannulation time is also important, because a long cannulation time was reported to be a risk factor for post-ERCP pancreatitis. Aim. To determine the number of ERCP procedures required for short cannulation time of the ...

Background. Consensus guidelines recommend that patients at high risk for choledocholithiasis undergo endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) without additional imaging. This study evaluates factors and outcomes associated with performing magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography (MRCP) prior to ERCP among patients at high risk for choledocholithiasis. Methods. An institutional ...

Goals and background: Biliary disease in pregnancy presents unique challenges. Conservative treatment is associated with recurrent symptoms, and the use of radiographic imaging is limited because of the possibility of fetal exposure. The aim of our study was to evaluate the use of intraductal ultrasound (IDUS) in nonradiation ERCP (ERCP-NR) to treat pregnant women with symptomatic choledocholit...

OBJECTIVES The aim of this prospective study was to evaluate the diagnostic value of the rapid urinary trypsinogen-2 test strip in post-endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) pancreatitis. METHODS A total of 150 patients were tested with the urinary trypsinogen-2 test strip and serum levels of amylase and lipase before ERCP and 3 hours after ERCP. The diagnostic value of urinar...

BACKGROUND Previous studies suggested that somatostatin given before endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) may reduce the incidence of post-ERCP pancreatitis. However, the routine use of somatostatin in all patients undergoing ERCP is not likely to be cost effective. This study evaluated whether intravenous bolus somatostatin given after diagnostic cholangiopancreatography could...
