we propose a new generation of unbiased (bias-free) antenna-less cw thz photomixer emitters array made of asymmetric msm gratings with subwavelength pitch, operating in optical near-field regime. we take advantage of the size effects in near-field optics and electrostatics to demonstrate the possibility of enhancing the thz power by four orders of magnitude, as compared with a similar array of ...

We present the results of narrow-band and broad-band imaging with the Very Large Telescope ⋆ of the field surrounding the radio galaxy TN J0924–2201 at z = 5.2. Fourteen candidate Lyα emitters with a rest-frame equivalent width of > 20 Å were detected. Spectroscopy of 8 of these objects showed that 6 have redshifts similar to that of the radio galaxy. The density of emitters at the redshift of ...

Free standing and vertically aligned silicon rice-straw- like array emitters were fabricated by modified electroless metal deposition (EMD), using HF-H(2)O(2) as an etching solution to reduce the emitter density and to make the emitter end of the formed silicon rice-straw arrays shaper than those formed by conventional EMD. These silicon rice-straw array emitters can be turned on at E(0) = 4.7 ...

Mass spectrometry is the enabling technology for proteomics. To fully realize the enormous potential of lab-on-a-chip in proteomics, a major advance in interfacing microfluidics with mass spectrometry is needed. Here, we report the first demonstration of monolithic integration of multinozzle electrospray emitters with a microfluidic channel via a novel silicon microfabrication process. These mi...

We suggest a mechanism by which a superradiant burst emerges from a subwavelength array of nonlinear classical emitters that are not initially synchronized. The emitters interact via the field of their common radiative response. We show that only if the distribution of initial phases is not uniform does a non-zero field of radiative response arise, leading to a superradiant burst. Although this...

Photoconductive (PC) terahertz (THz) emitters are often limited by ohmic loss and Joule heating-as these effects can lead to thermal runaway and premature device breakdown. To address this, the proposed work introduces PC THz emitters based on textured InP materials. The enhanced surface recombination and decreased charge-carrier lifetimes of the textured InP materials reduce residual photocurr...

Hydraulic impedance is a critical parameter for the operation of electrospray emitters, and for preventing flooding when spraying from arrays of emitters. Controlling flow rate by tuning the flow impedance allows accessing different operating modes, such as droplet, ionic, or pulsating. We report on a method to tailor the hydraulic impedance of micromachined capillary out-of-plane emitters with...
