The diameter and collapsibility of the inferior vena cava (IVC) should be interpreted in consideration with other clinical and echocardiographic parameters before drawing definitive diagnostic conclusions. We report a case of a 46-year-old female with isolated IVC dilation and diminished inspiratory collapse without other abnormalities, and provide a brief review of the literature.
Proper estimation of droplet growth rate plays a crucial role on appropriate prediction of supersonic separators performance for separation of fine droplets from a gas stream. Up to now, all available researches employ empirical or semi-empirical correlations to define the relationship between droplet growth rate (dr/dt) and other operating variables such as temperatures (T and TL), Pressure (P...
OBJECTIVE Currently, pediatric emergency medicine (PEM) physicians have limited data on point-of-care echocardiography (POCE). Our goals were to (1) determine the overall accuracy of POCE by PEMs in assessing left ventricular (LV) systolic function visually, presence or absence of pericardial effusion, and cardiac preload by estimating inferior vena cava (IVC) collapsibility, in acutely ill chi...
Collapsibility of the upper airways has been identified as an important pathogenic factor in obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). Objective measures of collapsibility are pharyngeal critical pressure (Pcrit) and resistance of the upstream segment (Rus). To systematically determine the effects of sleep stage and body position we investigated 16 male subjects suffering from OSA. We compared the measure...

BACKGROUND Spirometry is used to physiologically assess patients with central airway obstruction (CAO) before and after interventional bronchoscopy, but is not always feasible in these patients, does not localize the anatomic site of obstruction, and may not correlate with the patient's functional impairment. Impulse oscillometry may overcome these limitations. We assessed the correlations betw...
