Diesel exhaust (DE) characteristic of pre-1988 engines is classified as a "probable" human carcinogen (Group 2A) by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has classified DE as "likely to be carcinogenic to humans." These classifications were based on the large body of health effect studies conducted on DE over the past 30 or so years...

We introduce a syntax and semantics for an adaption of the Join Calculus to the Diesel programming language, entitled Join Diesel. We describe the design decisions and trade-offs made in integrating these concurrency primitives into the Diesel language. We also give a typechecking algorithm for the function calls and method declarations of Join Diesel and then prove its soundness.

Transesterified vegetable oils (biodiesel) are promising alternative fuel for diesel engines. Used vegetable oils are disposed from restaurants in large quantities. But higher viscosity restricts their direct use in diesel engines. In this study, used cooking oil was dehydrated and then transesterified using an alkaline catalyst. The combustion, performance and emission characteristics of Used ...

A Cummins N14-410 diesel engine was operated on twelve fuels produced by blending methyl tailowate, methyl soyate and ethanol with No.2 diesel fuel. Engine incylinder pressure data were used to evaluate engine performance. Peak cylinder pressures for each fuel blend at all engine speeds were lower than peak pressure for diesel fuel with the exception of the 80 % diesel, 13 % methyl tallowate, a...

this work studies the biosurfactants production which enables the diesel biodegradation byusing mixed microbial consortia from polluted sites. it was carried out by culturing three microbial consortia(named as xa, xb and xc) obtained from polluted soils, and enriched in diesel as sole carbon source.batchexperiments were done to study the effects of three variables (temperature, hydrocarbon conce...

Approximately 11% and 25% of annual Canadian oil spill accidents are gasoline and diesel spills, respectively. Gasoline and diesel spills are a challenge to conventional environmental forensic techniques because refinery processes remove most of the higher molecular weight biomarkers. This study presents a tiered environmental forensics strategy that includes such information as site operationa...

The risk of lung cancer associated with diesel exhaust has been calculated from 14 case-control or cohort studies. We evaluated the findings from these studies to determine whether there is sufficient evidence to implicate diesel exhaust as a human lung carcinogen. Four studies found increased risks associated with long-term exposure, although two of the four studies were based on the same coho...

1. The (14)C-labelling of the fatty acids and the methyl ketones in steam-distillates of milk fat from a lactating cow that had been injected intravenously with [1-(14)C]acetate was determined. 2. The labelling patterns of the C(6)-C(16) fatty acids and the corresponding methyl ketones with one fewer carbon atoms were similar, particularly so for the C(5)-C(10) compounds at 9 and 22hr. after th...

Diesel engines are major contributors of various types of air polluting exhaust gasses such as Particulate Matter (PM), Carbon monoxide (CO), Oxides of Nitrogen (NOx), Sulfur, and other harmful compounds. It has been shown that formation of these air pollutants can be significantly reduced by blending oxygenates into the base diesel. Ethanol blended diesel (e-diesel) is a cleaner burning altern...

to examine hydraulics of lnapls in soil, the retention curves of diesel fuel and water were both determined by hanging column method. the soil retention parameters were obtained based on van genuchten, brooks-corey and campbell’s models. in addition, the soil hydraulic conductivity for both fluids were predicted based on mualem- brooks-corey, burdine- brooks-corey, mualem-van genuchten and camp...
