We present an interesting case of a preterm Omani newborn that had delayed onset of congenital diaphragmatic hernia in association with group B streptococcus infection. The association and the pathogenesis are supported by literature review. The message to follow is that any neonate with prolonged course of streptococcal pneumonia, with unusual course, should be investigated for presence of con...

Diaphragmatic hernia is now recognized as a common abnormality of the upper gastro-intestinal tract, especially in elderly people (Harrington, 1948; Allison, 1951; Belsey, 1952). However, whereas strangulation is a common occurrence in most forms of hernia, it is rare in herniation through the diaphragm (Sellors and Papp, 1955). Carter and Giuseffi in 1948 were able to find only 39 cases of str...

We present a 45-year-old female patient who developed diaphragmatic rupture and secondary hernia following a diaphragmatic resection for a diaphragmatic abnormality with spontaneous pneumothorax performed by endoscopic stapling in video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS). This complication can be avoided by careful direct repair of the diaphragmatic incision in addition to endoscopic stapling.
