We have systematically investigated the low-temperature electron dephasing times τ φ in more than 40 three-dimensional polycrystalline impure metals with distinct material characteristics. In all cases, a saturation of the dephasing time is observed below about a (few) degree(s) Kelvin, depending on samples. The value of the saturated dephasing time τ 0 [≡ τ φ (T → 0 K)] falls basically in the ...

Thin, quench condensed films of Cs change their resistance and Hall effect dramatically when covered with surface impurities. In this paper we investigate the quantum interference corrections to the resistance ~weak localization! and determine the inelastic dephasing rate of the conduction electrons. The dephasing rate is proportional to the temperature-dependent resistance. For pure Cs films t...

We propose a mechanism to explain the nature of the damping of Rabi oscillations with an increasing driving-pulse area in localized semiconductor systems and have suggested a general approach which describes a coherently driven two-level system interacting with a dephasing reservoir. Present calculations show that the non-Markovian character of the reservoir leads to the dependence of the depha...

Single-photon emission from the nitrogen-vacancy defect in diamond constitutes one of its many proposed applications. Owing to its doubly degenerate 3E electronic excited state, photons from this defect can be emitted by two optical transitions with perpendicular polarization. Previous measurements have indicated that orbital-selective photoexcitation does not, however, yield photoluminescence ...

We investigate the influence of nearby two-level systems on the dynamics of a qubit. The intrinsic decoherence is given by a coupling of both the qubit and the two-level systems to a heat bath. Assuming weak interactions between the qubit and the two-level systems we show that the dephasing of the qubit follows a multi-exponential decay. For a flat distribution of energy splittings of the two-l...

The problem of dephasing channel discrimination is addressed for finite-dimensional systems. In particular, the optimization with respect to input states without energy constraint solved analytically qubit, qutrit and ququart. Additionally, it shown that resorting side entanglement assisted strategy completely useless in this case.

We study dephasing of electrons induced by a which path detector and thus verify Bohr's complementarity principle for fermions. We utilize a double path interferometer with two slits, with one slit being replaced by a coherent quantum dot (QD). A short one dimensional channel, in the form of a quantum point contact (QPC), in close proximity to the QD, serves as a which path detector. We find th...

We study nonequilibrium dephasing in an electronic Mach-Zehnder interferometer. We demonstrate that the shot noise at the beam splitter of the interferometer generates an ensemble of nonequilibrium electron density configurations and that electron interactions induce configuration-specific phase shifts of an interfering electron. The resulting dephasing exhibits two characteristic features, a l...

In this paper we investigate the effect of dephasing on proposed quantum gates for the solid-state Kane quantum computing architecture. Using a simple model of the decoherence, we find that the typical error in a CNOT gate is 8.3 × 10. We also compute the fidelities of Z, X, Swap, and Controlled Z operations under a variety of dephasing rates. We show that these numerical results are comparable...
