In present-day IC’s, substrate noise can have a significant impact on performance. Thus, modeling the noise-propagation characteristics of the substrate is becoming ever more important. Two ways of obtaining such a model are the Finite Element Method (FEM) and the Boundary Element Method (BEM). The FEM makes a full 3D discretization of the entire substrate and is very accurate and flexible, but...
The paper presents numerical modeling of the dynamics of recently developed electromagnetic valve actuator. The decoupled modelling approach is employed consisting of three-dimensional finite element analysis of the magnetic field of the actuator and solution of the dynamics equations on the basis of functions obtained from the magnetic field analysis. For the finite element analysis ANSYS prog...
Higher-order, large-domain electromagnetic simulations are presented based on the finite element method (FEM), method of moments (MoM), and physical optics (PO). The simulations combine higher order geometrical modeling and higher order field/current modeling, which is referred to as double-higher-order modeling. The examples demonstrate that accurate and efficient FEM, MoM, and PO simulations ...
There has been a continuous interest in the analysis of ground-penetrating radar systems and related applications in civil engineering [1]. Consequently, a deeper insight of scattering phenomena occurring in a lossy half-space, as well as the development of sophisticated numerical methods based on Finite Difference Time Domain (FDTD) method, Finite Element Method (FEM), Boundary Element Method ...
Common finite element programs for plate bending analysis are complicated and limited by the common plate theories. Such programs are usually not user-friendly for designers to implement. Lately, Hou Man et al. from the University of New South Wales has developed a technique for unified 3D plate bending analysis using scaled boundary finite element analysis, which promises to have little restri...
SUMMARY Metamaterials are generally defined as a class of artificial effective media which macroscopically exhibit extraordinary electromagnetic properties that may not be found in nature, and are composed of periodically structured dielectric, or magnetic, or metallic materials. This paper reviews recently developed electromagnetic modeling methods of metama-tericals and their inherent basic i...
We present a numerical method, based on a coupling of finite elements and boundary elements, to solve a fluid–solid interaction problem posed in the plane. The boundary unknowns involved in our formulation are approximated by a spectral method. We provide error estimates for the Galerkin method and present numerical results that illustrate the accuracy of our scheme.
As a semi-analytical structural analysis algorithm, the scaled boundary finite-element method (SBFEM) only discretizes the boundary of the analyzed domain without the need of fundamental solutions, which makes it powerful for problems with stress singularity or unbounded foundation media. In this paper, a sensitivity analysis method of SBFEM is proposed for elastostatics, through which the firs...
