An apical mid-diastolic murmur is sometimes audible in patients with a patent ductus arteriosus (Nadas and Alimurung, 1952) but differentiation from organic mitral stenosis is usually not difficult. The patient described in this paper presented with typical murmurs of isolated mitral stenosis and the correct diagnosis of patent ductus arteriosus and trivial mitral stenosis was made only at oper...

SUMMARY Left vocal cord paralysis in association with patent ductus arteriosus is unusual. We report a patient with long-standing patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) in whom CT studies obtained before and after paralysis developed showed an interval increase in size of the pulmonary trunk. The pathogenesis of left vocal cord paralysis in association with long-standing PDA is discussed.

background: the transcatheter closure of patent ductus arteriosus has advanced rapidly with improvements in device designs. the aim of this study was to analyze the safety, efficacy, and early and intermediate follow-up results of the percutaneous closure of persistent ductus arteriosus (pda) with the amplatzer ductal occluder (ado) in children.   methods: between may 2004 and march 2007, fifty...

A child with truncus arteriosus communis, characterized by the posterior origin of an individualized pulmonary trunk is presented. This relationship between the great arteries is unusual in truncus arteriosus communis and the spatial orientation resembles that seen in transposition of the great vessels. A brief discussion is proposed about a proper terminology in this type of complex anomaly.

In modern adult anaesthetic practice uncorrected complex congenital heart lesions are rare. Persistent truncus arteriosus accounts for only 1.2-3% of all congenital heart malformations. If not corrected, fewer than 20% of these patients survive the first year of life. Here we report the successful management of an adult patient with uncorrected truncus arteriosus who presented for hip arthropla...

We present a child with truncus arteriosus and truncal insufficiency who had diastolic fluttering of the anterior mitral valve leaflet and left ventricular surface of the interventricular septum on echocardiogram. Although the fluttering has been previously described in patients with aortic insufficiency, it has not been reported with truncus arteriosus.

Hemi-truncus arteriosus is a rare congenital cardiovascular malformation. It usually presents in infancy and leads to development of progressive pulmonary vascular disease, heart failure, and death. We report a case of hemi truncus arteriosus in a 12-day-old neonate who was successfully managed at our institute.

The inability to differentiate accurately between patent ductus arteriosus and aortopulmonary window may occasionally result in finding an aortopulmonary window while prepared to close a patent ductus arteriosus at left thoracotomy. Anatomic and technical factors now allow aortopulmonary window closure from the left chest using surgical clips in certain selected cases. The successful repair of ...

BACKGROUND Several devices are available for transcatheter occlusion of patent ductus arteriosus. Most of these devices either require complicated intracardiac maneuvering, have not been tried in humans, or need a large-sized sheath for implantation of the device. METHODS AND RESULTS During a 26-month period ending November 1992, 14 patients underwent transcatheter closure of patent ductus ar...

Despite the revolutionary changes that occurred in percutaneous Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA) closure, classical angiographic Krichenko classification of PDA remained unchanged and its implications on ductal closure has not been frequently studied.
