In recent years large repositories of structured knowledge (DBpedia, Freebase, YAGO) have become a valuable resource for language technologies, especially for the automatic aggregation of knowledge from textual data. One essential component of language technologies, which leverage such knowledge bases, is the linking of words or phrases in specific text documents with elements from the knowledg...
a university for the world real R Introduction • Cross-lingual QA is getting more attentions because of the needs for cross-lingual information/answer seeking in the fast-changing, multilingual world of information. • For information/answer seekers, nothing is better than to be able to use their natural languages to compose their questions precisely without worrying the burden of translation.
This paper introduces the outline of the first NTCIR Workshop [1], August 30 September 1, 1999, which is the first evaluation workshop designed to enhance research in Japanese text retrieval and cross-lingual information retrieval, then suggests some thoughts on the future directions of cross-lingual information access in the research and development of digital libraries.
This paper describes cross-lingual link discovery method of ISTIC used in the system evaluation task at NTCIR-9. In this year's evaluation, we participated in cross-lingual link discovery task from English to Chinese. In this paper, we mainly describe our understanding for CLLD, the key techniques of our system, and the evaluation results.
At NTCIR-10 we participated in the cross-lingual link discovery (CrossLink-2) task. In this paper we describe our systems for discovering cross-lingual links between the Chinese, Japanese, and Korean (CJK) Wikipedia and the English Wikipedia. The evaluation results show that our implementation of the crosslingual linking method achieved promising results.
This paper describes the systems used by CRL in the Cross-lingual IR and Q&A tracks. The cross-language experiment was unique in that it was run interactively with a mono-lingual user simulating how a true cross-language system might be used. The methods used in the Q&A system are based on language processing technology developed at CRL for machine translation and information extraction.
In this paper, we challenge a basic assumption of many cross-lingual transfer techniques: the availability of word aligned parallel corpora, and consider ways to accommodate situations in which such resources do not exist. We show experimentally that, here again, weakly supervised cross-lingual learning techniques can prove useful, once adapted to transfer knowledge across pairs of languages.
To facilitate cross-lingual studies, there is an increasing interest in identifying linguistic universals. Recently, a new universal scheme was designed as a part of universal dependency project. In this paper, we map the Arabic tweets dependency treebank (ATDT) to the Universal Dependency (UD) scheme to compare it to other language resources and for the purpose of cross-lingual studies.
