This paper reviews two different uses of the continuous wavelet transform for modal identification purposes. The properties of the wavelet transform, mainly energetic, allow to emphasize or filter the main information within measured signals and thus facilitate the modal parameter identification especially when mechanical systems exhibit modal coupling and/or relatively strong damping.

The continuous wavelet transform utilizing a complex Morlet analyzing wavelet has a close connection to the Fourier transform and is a powerful analysis tool for decomposing broadband wavefield data. A wide range of seismic wavelet applications have been reported over the last three decades, and the free Seismic Unix processing system now contains a code (succwt) based on the work reported here.

Intonation generation in state-of-the-art speech synthesis requires the analysis of a large amount of data. Therefore reliable algorithms for the extraction of the parameters of an intonation model from a given F0 contour are required. This contribution proposes improvements concerning the extraction of the parameters of the quantitative intonation model developed by Fujisaki. The improvements ...

In this article, we introduce a kind of unitary operator U associated with the involution on the Heisenberg group, invariant closed subspaces are identified with the characterization spaces of sub-Laplacian operators. In the sense of vector-valued functions, we study the theory of continuous wavelet transform. Also, we obtain a new inversion formula of Radon transform on the Heisenberg group Hn.

The present study provides a concise description of wave propagation in cellular sandwich panels. A novel approach of damage detection based on mode conversion is proposed which can be useful for detecting relatively small damages in cellular sandwich structures using high frequency guided waves. The new methodology applies the continuous wavelet transform (CWT) and the cosine formula to extrac...

A new technique is described for estimating the speed of a mobile station in a wireless system. The mobile speed maps the characteristic spatial scale of the received signal into a characteristic temporal scale. The continuous wavelet transform tracks changes in the temporal scale to estimate the mobile speed as a function of time. This technique requires neither knowledge of the average receiv...

Chirps are signals (or sums of signals) that may be characterized by a local (i.e. time-dependent) amplitude and a local frequency. Time-frequency representations such as wavelet representations are well adapted to the characterization problem of such chirps. Ridges in the modulus of the transform determine regions in the transform domain with a high concentration of energy, and are regarded as...
