Congestion control is becoming an important issue in a shared network due to the growth of the network and the load. Congestion conk01 is concemed with allocating the network resowes and is heavily influenced by the traffic dynamic. It is not easy to get a satisfactory solution due to the complexity of the problem There is a number of network policies that affect the congestion control and ther...

We present a simplified model of a network of TCP-like sources that compete for a shared bandwidth. We show that: (i) networks of communicating devices operating AIMD congestion control algorithms may be modelled as a positive linear system; (ii) that such networks possess a unique stationary point; and (iii) that this stationary point is globally exponentially stable. Using these results we es...

In communication networks, congestion control, routing, and multiple access schemes for scheduling transmissions are typically regulated by distributed algorithms. Engineers designed these algorithms using clever heuristics that they refined in the light of simulation results and experiments. Over the last two decades, a deeper understanding of these algorithms emerged through the work of resea...

The rapid growth of the Internet and increased demand to use the Internet for voice and video applications necessitate the design and utilization of new Internet architectures with effective congestion control algorithms. As a result, the Differentiated Service (Diff-Serv) architectures were proposed to deliver Quality of Service (QoS) in TCP/IP networks. Network congestion control remains a cr...

Wireless Body Sensor Networks (WBSNs) involve a convergence of biosensors, wireless communication and networks technologies. WBSN enables real-time healthcare services to users. Wireless sensors can be used to monitor patients’ physical conditions and transfer real time vital signs to the emergency center or individual doctors. Wireless networks are subject to more packet loss and congestion. T...

In the paper, we propose a congestion control scheme for reliable multicast communication which enables TCP fairness and prevents a drop-to-zero problem. The proposed congestion control scheme is rate-based one based on NAKs from receivers and cooperatively works with a flow control scheme. The congestion control scheme consists of two components of a ratebased controller and a selection mechan...

Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) have recently become popular for both recreational and commercial use and UAV networks have thus started to attract the attention of researchers in area of the computer communication and networking. One important topic in UAV networks is congestion control because congestion causes packet losses and delays which result in the waste of all types of network resourc...

This paper studies the problem of congestion control in high speed communication networks, especially ATM. A modelbased predictive controller is proposed for rate flow control in a single bottleneck network. Through simulation, we show the predicive controller can effectively deal with the presence of uncertain and time-varying propagation delay.

The use of real-time applications over the Internet is a challenging problem that the QoS epoch attempted to solve by proposing the DiffServ architecture. Today, the only existing service provided by the Internet is still best-effort. As a result, multimedia applications often perform on top of a transport layer that provides a variable sending rate. In an obvious manner, this variable sending ...

The characterization of congestion in communication systems is a pre-requisite for the definition of mechanisms that can be used in congestion control, with the goal to minimize its effects on the performance of distributed applications. In order for those mechanisms to work properly, there is the need to quantify congestion of services and systems. This paper proposes a scheme that enables the...
