Although Morgagni hernia is a surgical condition, for its asymptomatic course, diagnosis is usually incidental in a pediatric unit. Morgagni hernia can be associated with other congenital anomalies such as heart defects, omphal...
Bochdalek hernia is a type of congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH) that typically presents in childhood, but may rarely be detected in adults. Most cases are asymptomatic and diagnosed incidentally. Hernias are often located on the leftside, while bilateral location is rare. We present a 75-year-old man in whom bilaterally Bochdalek hernia was detected incidentally. Introduction. Morgagni hernia is a rare form of congenital diaphragmatic hernia. Case Presentation. We present three cases of Morgagni hernia with GI symptoms treated by laparoscopic surgery. Case summary Cranial ventral midline hernias, most often congenital, can be associated with other congenital abnormalities, such as sternal, diaphragmatic or cardiac malformations. A 4-year-old multiparous queen with a substernal hernia was admitted for evaluation of a mammary mass. During CT examination, a bifid sternum, the abdominal hernia containing the intestines, spleen, omentum, three fe...
We describe an adult patient with gastric volvulus caused by a congenital diaphragmatic hernia. Anaesthetic management was complicated by cardiovascular instability, respiratory distress and unexpectedly difficult intubation.
Diaphragmatic hernia occurs in one in 2000 births' and is responsible for 8 % of congenital malformations causing death during the first few days after birth.2 The most common hernia occurs through the foramen of Bochdalek and is five times more common on the left side than on the right.3 Complete absence of the diaphragm is very rare and, in a series of 117 cases of diaphragmatic hernia in inf...
Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernias (CDH) is a rare entity with incidence of 1:3000 live births. Late presentation is unusual and in most cases is diagnosed in adolescents or early childhood. Asymptomatic diaphragmatic hernia in the absence of trauma is very rare in adults. The finding of CDH in adults is mostly incidental. Left sided hernia i.e. Bochdalek hernia is more common. It is more commonl...
A 25-year-old man underwent diagnostic colonoscopy because of mild upper abdominal pain. He had no history of trauma. The colonoscopy was completed without any significant difficulty. During the procedure, the patient did not complain of any pain or uncomfortable feelings. However, 24 hours after the procedure, the patient returned to the hospital with complaints of serious upper abdominal pain...
Congenital diaphragmatic hernias (CDHs) in Hawaii between 1987 and 1996 were examined with data from a birth defects surveillance system. There were 51 cases of CDH (prevalence 2.45 per 10,000 births). Forty-nine percent of livebirths survived, an increase over the rate reported in Hawaii in 1975-1982. These results are similar to those reported by other population-based studies.
