Vimentin and S-100 protein expression was studied in the kidneys of adult sheep and goat using immunohistochemistry. Vimentin was detected in the podocytes, mesangial cells of the glomerulus, in the endothelium of renal capillaries and renal stromal cells. In collecting tubules, ducts and nerves of the renal papilla, S-100 protein was expressed.
We report a very rare case of Bellini duct carcinoma originating from the collecting tubules of the kidney. A left renal tumor was detected during a health examination and radical nephrectomy was performed. Histological examination showed papillary adenocarcinoma. By means of immunohistochemical methods, we felt that the tumor was a renal carcinoma of Bellini duct origin.
We report a case in which mucoproteins from an adenocarcinoma of the pancreas, released into the ascitic fluid and serum, were filtered through the renal glomeruli to form very viscous casts which obstructed the renal collecting tubules and caused the patient's death from oliguria.
In the present study, the existence of serotonin immunoreactivity was investigated in the adrenal gland and kidney of porcupine, Hystrix cristata, using immunohistochemical techniques as a pioneer attempt. Serotonin immunoreactivity was detected in adrenal medullary cells, distal tubules and collecting duct cells in kidney.
We prepared monoclonal antibodies against N-(γ-maleimidobutyryloxy)succinimide-conjugated vancomycin (VM). The monoclonal antibody was specific for conjugated or free VM. The monoclonal antibody enabled us to develop an immunocytochemical method for detecting the uptake of VM in the rat kidney and liver. Three hours after a single intravenous (i.v.) injection of VM at the therapeutic dose, the ...
Carbonic anhydrase II and IV mRNA in rabbit nephron segments: stimulation during metabolic acidosis.
Carbonic anhydrase (CA) facilitates renal bicarbonate reabsorption and acid excretion. Cytosolic CA II catalyzes the buffering of intracellular hydroxyl ions by CO2, whereas membrane-bound CA IV catalyzes the dehydration of carbonic acid generated from the secretion of protons. Although CA II and IV are expressed in rabbit kidney, it is not entirely clear which segments express which isoforms. ...
Albumin has been identified in preparations of renal distal tubules and collecting ducts by mass spectrometry. This study aimed to establish whether albumin was a contaminant in those studies or actually present in the tubular cells, and if so, identify the albumin containing cells and commence exploration of the origin of the intracellular albumin. In addition to the expected proximal tubular ...
BACKGROUND Retinoic acid is the bioactive derivative of vitamin A, which plays an indispensible role in kidney development by activating retinoic acid receptors. Although the location, concentration and roles of endogenous retinoic acid in post-natal kidneys are poorly defined, there is accumulating evidence linking post-natal vitamin A deficiency to impaired renal concentrating and acidifying ...
The mechanism and magnitude by which the mammalian kidney generates and maintains its proximal tubules, distal tubules, and collecting ducts remain controversial. Here, we use long-term in vivo genetic lineage tracing and clonal analysis of individual cells from kidneys undergoing development, maintenance, and regeneration. We show that the adult mammalian kidney undergoes continuous tubulogene...
A highly selective, amiloride-sensitive, epithelial sodium channel from rat colon (rENaC), composed of three homologous subunits termed alpha, beta, and gamma rENaC, has been cloned by functional expression and was proposed to mediate electrogenic sodium reabsorption in aldosterone-responsive epithelia. To determine whether rENaC could account for sodium absorption in vivo, we studied the cellu...
