INTRODUCTION Human papillomavirus (HPV) is associated with more human cancers than any other virus. Many studies have investigated the association between bladder cancer and HPV but the results remain controversial. The aim of the present study is to evaluate whether HPV have an etiological role in bladder carcinogenesis among Moroccan patients. METHODOLOGY Forty-eight fresh biopsies (43 blad...

Egg drop syndrome (EDS) is caused by a hemagglutinating adenovirus which has become a major cause of lost egg production and sever economic losses in breeder and layer chicken flocks throughout the world. A PCR assay was optimized for detection of EDS virus in inoculated allantoic fluids (AFs) of duck and chicken emberyonated eggs. Two strains of EDS viruses were propagated in allantoic cavit...

Abstract Introduction Canine leptospirosis has always been a differential diagnosis in dogs presenting with clinical signs and blood profiles associated kidney and/or liver disease. The conventional polymerase chain reaction (PCR) provides diagnoses, but real-time PCR-based tests provide earlier confirmation determine the severity of infection, especially acute stage, allowing early detection f...

BACKGROUND This study was performed to compare the prevalence of HPV infection and high risk HPV genotypes [16, 18] between monogamous and polygamous women, in Zabol, Iran. METHODS This cross sectional study was conducted in Zabol in 2006 - 2007. Two hundred sixty five married women attending the Gynecology Clinic for Cervical Disease Screening entered to this study. One hundred sixty two cas...

Human papillomavirus (HPV) is the main risk factor associated with the development of cervical cancer (CC); however, there are other factors, such as immunosuppression caused by the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), that favor progression of the illness. This study was thus aimed at evaluating the functionality of classical PCR-based molecular tests for the generic identification of HPV DNA (...

BACKGROUND Knowledge on HPV prevalence and genotype distribution in HSIL and ICC is highly essential for the introduction of an effective vaccination program and appropriate epidemiological monitoring of viral ecology before and after vaccination in Congo. This study aimed to determine the specific-HPV genotypes in HSIL and ICC among women in southwestern Congo. METHODS 125 archival paraffin-...

A nested PCR assay to detect parasite DNA in slit aspirates from skin lesions of patients with post-kala-azar dermal lesihmaniasis (PKDL) is described. PCR results were positive in 27 of 29 (93%) samples by nested PCR assay, while only 20 of 29 (69%) were positive in a primary PCR assay. The nested PCR assay allowed reliable diagnosis of PKDL in a noninvasive manner.

In order to evaluate the LightCycler-based PCR (LC-PCR) as a diagnostic assay technique, a classical pp65 antigenemia assay and the commercially available COBAS Amplicor CMV Monitor (CACM) assay were compared to the LC-PCR assay for the detection and quantitation of cytomegalovirus (CMV) load in 404 parallel specimens of peripheral blood from 66 patients after solid organ transplantation. A goo...

DNA amplification by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) should be inhibited if the target for amplification region in the template DNA is nicked or cut. Based on this premise, we established a sensitive and differential assay using PCR to detect antibiotics that act on DNA. After template lambda DNA (10 pg) was incubated with antibiotics (10 approximately 20 ng) at 37 degrees C for 30 minutes in a...
