Objective The study aimed to investigate whether there is any association of anterior knee pain and knee function with chondromalacia stage and patellofemoral alignment in patients with anterior knee pain for over a month and with chondromalacia patellae (CMP) detected by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Materials and Methods We reviewed the medical records of 38 patients who underwent a kne...

BACKGROUND Patellar crepitus may occur with posterior-stabilized (PS) TKAs. Several studies have suggested numerous etiologies of patellar crepitus after PS-TKA with patellar resurfacing. However, it is unclear whether and to what degree crepitus influences pain and function without or with patellar resurfacing. QUESTIONS/PURPOSES We therefore determined (1) the frequency of crepitus; (2) whi...

Twenty-nine patients (21 females and 8 males) with chondromalacia patellae diagnosed by arthroscopy were randomly allocated to receive aspirin or placebo for 3 months. Clinical and arthroscopic examination after 3 months showed no significant change in symptoms, signs, or macroscopic appearances in either group. Surgical treatment was performed in 14 patients for deteriorating symptoms.

Patella alta is common in cerebral palsy, especially in patients with crouch gait. Correction of patella alta has been advocated in the treatment of crouch, however the appropriate degree of correction and the implications for knee extensor function remain unclear. Therefore, the goal of this study was to assess the impact of patellar position on quadriceps and patellar tendon forces during nor...

UNLABELLED Fundamental to rational, safe, and effective treatment for any orthopaedic condition is an accurate understanding of the etiology of the symptoms. The decades-old paradigm of a pure structural and biomechanical explanation for the genesis of patellofemoral pain is giving way to one in which biologic factors are being given more consideration. It is increasingly evident that a variabl...

Figure 2: Correlation of arthroscopic grade with T1ρ MRI. 14 arthroscopic observations of chondromalacia were made among 6 patients. Mean compartment T1ρ was abnormal in all cases of grade 3 and 4 chondromalacia, but mixed for grades 1 and 2. ROI analysis of the individual patients resolves the inconsistency among grades 1 and 2, for which heterogeneous and focally increased T1ρ was observed an...
