An edible marine red alga, Grateloupia filicina, collected from Jeju Island of Korea was hydrolyzed by cheap food-grade carbohydrases (Viscozyme, Celluclast, AMG, Termamyl, and Ultraflo) to investigate its anticoagulant activity. Among the tested enzymatic extracts of G. filicina, a Termamyl extract showed the highest anticoagulant activity. Anion-exchange chromatography on DEAE-cellulose and g...

Bacteria produce different types of biofilms under distinct environmental conditions. Vibrio fischeri has the capacity to produce at least two distinct types of biofilms, one that relies on the symbiosis polysaccharide Syp and another that depends upon cellulose. A key regulator of biofilm formation in bacteria is the intracellular signaling molecule cyclic diguanylate (c-di-GMP). In this study...

Wood and dietary fiber products all belong to a class of biomolecular composites that are rich in cellulose and lignin. The interaction between cellulose and lignin determines such properties as mechanical strength (wood); creep, durability and aging; cellulose purity (pulp); and digestibility (nutrients). The understanding of the interaction between cellulose and lignin can be approached from ...

The anion exchanger phosphocellulose and the cation exchanger triethylaminoethyl cellulose were used to immobilize cells of the fungus Aureobasidium pullulans ATCC 201253 and the adsorbed cells were subsequently investigated for their ability to produce the polysaccharide pullulan using batch fermentation. The cells adsorbed on the triethylaminoethyl cellulose at pH 7.5 produced higher pullulan...

Cellulose is a prominent scaffolding polysaccharide found in plants as micro fibrils which form the structurally strong framework cell walls. It has wide variety of uses such attacking agent, emulsifier, stabilizer etc. Its use can be further enhanced by converting cellulose into derivatives. One most important derivatives carboxy methyl (CMC). In present study, converted to CMC thereby prepari...

Acetobacter strains able to produce a thick pellicle at 37 degrees C were screened among many thermotolerant strains isolated from fruits in Thailand. As a result, Acetobacter sp. SKU 1100 was selected as the producer of a relatively thick pellicle even when cultured at higher temperatures such as 37 degrees C or 40 degrees C. This strain could produce a pellicle polysaccharide in a shaking sub...

Cellulose is the most abundant and renewable natural semi-crystalline polysaccharide. This biopolymer an inexhaustible source of fibers (NFs), valuable raw material for production microparticles microcrystalline (MCC) powdered cellulose (PC), as well other micro-products, which are widely used in biomedicine, food additives, plastics, materials. In addition, has a nano-fibrillar architecture th...
